Just picked up a Death Race in decent condition comes up and goes into attract mode but won't take credits board was serviced by Elektron Forge at one point and is running off of a switching power supply any ideas? I would just send the board off but I thought I would take a shot to see if I can get it up and running in time for my Halloween party on the 27th.

Poking around it looks like they are are running only the main board off of the switching supply and the rest of the 5v off of the original power supply would I have any issue tapping off of the switching supply for the rest of the 5v?

Looking at the manual it looks like the +5vdc is split between the main board, the pedals, and the two steering boards. If you don't have 5v at the coin switch then it is a problem on the main board since it is supplied from there.

Are you sure any +5v is supplied to the rest of the game? Sometimes people rig the 5v line off of a switcher and leave the other voltages (+24vdc in this case) coming from the original linear power supply.

The main board is running fine just no 5v for the coin switch.

Most games use a ground for the coin switch. I don't really know that game and would have to look at the schematics and wiring diagram. you can usually ground a pin on the game pcb to coin up. That would tell you if it is a wiring problem or other.

Thanks for the tip if anyone out there with the schematics for DR could point me in the right direction as far as what pin to ground I would really appreciate it.

It looks like it is on connector j2 pin 7 for coin and j2 pin 6 for start. That should get a game going so you can play it. This would also tell you the wiring is mucked up.

NOW a word of caution here.....

It could be ground that operates that or it COULD be +5.....It is usually ground.

Ok looks like I have a missing ground on the coin door switch I checked the 5v at the switch using the ground at the switcher and the 5v is there looking at the wiring it looks like the grounds for the switches tie into the earth ground from the cord which is missing the ground prong could this be causing the problem?

The gounds should tie into the main board and possibly the power supply. The missing mains ground should be replaced but it is not very likely the cause of your problems.

Yep they all tie into the board on the original power supply and then there is a ground connection from the chassis to the cord is there anything on the power supply board that would cause the ground to fail?
