Looking for someone to repair my Death Race PCB. It was working for a couple months and died shortly after. Checked voltages and they were good. I've let it sit way to long and want to get it up and running again.

Hi!

Can you elaborate a bit? Does sound work? Are you getting ANYTHING on screen? Are you able to check the h/vsync signals? Clock? Reset?

Last time I fired it up I had the engine noise and that was about it. I adjusted the brightness and contrast on the monitor to make sure that it wasn't that.

not trying to derail this one, but is it possible to convert a destruction derby pcb to a DR with a rom swap ? and add the scream daughtercard?

Death race is TTL only no ROM's or processor on it so answer would be no to the ROM swap. Not sure how similar the PCB's are But it would probably be a huge undertaking copying all the TTL chips to make the gremlins and that not.

well then, i guess the proper term would be "convert" not rom swap

thanks for the info

I wouldn't recommend it. I don't think the differences are well documented, and both PCBs are awfully hard to find these days. You'd be better off with a full repro, or maybe someone could do a FPGA version like have been done with other TTL games. It sure would be neat to play all the Exidy drivers in one cab.

@Gump79 and thebman80, I would be happy to look at these boards. Bench fee is $20, and $70+ship if repaired. Bench fee goes toward repair.

Looking forward to working on them.

Any chance you can check the h/v sync? Don't have the schematic in front of me but if it's TTL only, it should be relatively easy to figure out.

Just because the board does not use a CPU does not mean there will be no ROMs
I see like 15 PROMs on this board.

So yes the board uses ROM to store the graphics.

Ah didn't know Haven't had a chance to dive into the schematics much. Just at a glance everything just looked like TTL to me. Wish they had a parts diagram with everything labeled.

Definitely possible although I've never ran across a separate "scream" board. All the DR's I've seen have the scream circuit on the game board with the rest of the audio.

There's also an FPGA based solution for this as well.
