Death Race FPGA Shoutout
Hello everyone!
I would like to extend my personal appreciation to Brian (Toledo Flyer) and everyone else involved in bringing this to the community to save these games from being extinct.
This FPGA kit is truly a work of art! We did our installation two days ago, and what an easy installation and a rock solid alternative to the original board set plus much more!
I have attached some photos of our installation success here, and we are truly enjoying this FPGA!
We have also used this kit as a troubleshooting tool for our controls and our original Death race board set.
If you have already purchased, or plan to purchase this package deal, then here are a few things to consider during your installation if you have not done so:
1. Make sure that the +5VDC is running to either the FPGA board or the +5VDC pad on the audio I/O. If you do not do this, it will cause problems with the FPGA resetting when you are in two player mode. A voltage comes from the I/O board and will power the FPGA, but it is a weak signal.
2. Make sure that your +5VDC is running to all of your controls if you intend to use an external switcher for your power source for everything.
3. If you intend to use the Multi board dip switch setting to play all three games, you will have to adjust L1 on your monitor to dial in the frequency of the scan to where all three games will recognize it. Rally Ally when selected in multi game mode, will scramble your picture. This is a very fine adjustment and will not take long to do. (Well, it did not for us.) Adjust L1 with a plastic TV pot tweeker tool.
That is it!
Thank you again for everyone involved in this project and the support for it!
Keep up the great work!
