the time has finally come to pick up my death race this saturday :) !!! it will be a H-U-G-E restoration project because the condition is pretty poor, but i'm sure i'll have it shiny again one day.

one part that is missing though is the backdoor which i need to rebuild. therefore i'm looking for some pictures of the DR backdoor along with some measurements (e.g. IF there are holes in it, where do they have to go?).

any help to get this thing recreated are greatly appreciated! so to all those DR owners: get out your cameras and snap some pics, please ;)

I had to replace my back door too. I used 3/4" plywood with a 1/8" gap all around. No holes (yet). I have seen 2 other DR cabinets. From memory, they each had maybe 5 holes, equally spaced across the back door in a straight line. Diameter about 1.5". One cab had holes near the top and the other cab had holes near the bottom. I recommend holes at the top for better heat exchange.

Is your game complete (except for the door)? Does it work?

thx a lot for your answer!

i haven't picked up the game yet, although i've already seen it "live". the game is complete and working, although in rough shape (see attached pics).

i've found a picture of the back of the cab in the gameroom article about gary's DR restoration. his backdoor obviously has 5 holes (one must have been in the broken off part) at the top of the door. this is where i'm going to put them!

if anyone could provide measures (position and diameter) it would be perfect!

Did you see in that last picture that there are 5 holes in the bottom piece also? I'll bet they're the same diameter and distance apart as the top holes. That would just leave you just needing the distance from the top, which looks pretty close to the same distance that the bottom holes are from the edge. They may have used some kind of jig on both parts as an easy way to make them.

good idea! however, i've just looked closely at the original (color enhanced) picture of my machine (in higher resolution) and it looks as if it only has ONE hole on the left side of the bottom piece. if i compare the pics of my machine with the yellow version i've also got the feeling that my bottom piece stretches up higher (compare it to the position of the artwork). strnage indeed!

Hmm. Yours is certainly different. I agree about the hole size. They would have used the same drill and horizontal placement. But the photo does give the impression that the distance from the end is different for top an bottom. Best thing to to would be to contact Gary from directly and ask him about Funspot's DR.

This one puzzles me as well. I am in the middle of rebuliding my Death Race cabinet and this back door hole situation is confusing to me.
First it does not show anything in the manual as far as holes. My cabinet was missing the back door and the bottom piece as well, so I have no idea what it is supposed to look like.
Before I finish the cabinet reconstruction I would like clarification as well as to weather or not these holes are supposed to be in there and if so where???

What I need is the measurments for the wood that holds the board and power supply in place in the back of the cabinet. I can guess on it - but if I knew the exact measurments of these pieces that would help me greatly. We just need to find someone that has pictures of their cabinet from every angle.

Well...that just went into the ether. Trying again.

I just measured the back door on Exidy Destruction Derby. The cab is not a perfect match, but it's very very close to Death Race.

They are different. But then....one Death Race differs from another Death Race.

I don't have an original back door. But I do believe my bottom plate has the 5 holes
(not 1, not 7). And I think they're the larger ones. That's what I'm going to try to measure.

ok thanks... the sooner the better - Mine is literally at that stage where the holes are about to be drilled - the last thing I want to do is put them in the wrong spots
