I purchased 10 new Vision Pro monitors from Happ back in 2007 to replace some 1980's WG monitors that probably could be repaired but I didn't have the time or knowledge on how to repair. Given the fact that new monitors are very expensive now (if you can find them), I am looking for someone in the E. TN area to do some repairs on monitors or I need the direction on what to check on monitor boards. I just don't know the common symptoms associated with dead monitors.

I installed 3 new Vision Pros in 3 Ms. Pac cabinets in 2/2007 and in the last 3 months, all 3 have died. When I plug the machines in, I get the static sound coming from the monitor on initial power up and I get a white line flash around the outer part of the monitor, but no picture. The games play fine when you key up a game. I don't think it's a pcb problem. I do not see any "fire" in the neck of any of the 3 monitors and they all 3 have the same symptoms.

Any info is appreciated. I have called the guy that used to do all of our repairs countless times and cannot get him to respond. Yes, we paid him what he charged and usually in cash every time.

a friend I was talking to about these has commented on the same thing, they die, and from memory he said the flybacks go bad :( which isnt too good for a newish monitor, sorry to hear that, hopefully all 10 dont go bad

Thanks guys. I figured it would be something big. There are no good new monitors out there. I have tried the Kortec's with terrible results as well. I sent a whole shipment of those back to the supplier after 3 died within 1 hour of being powered up. I think they had a chassis problem. If you hear of flybacks being available, keep me in mind. I will be looking as well.

I try to be open minded and look at all angles on deals like this. I've had a VP running for around 3 years or so. Just as brilliant as the day it was put in. If you're ripping through monitors like that, while entirely possible you had 3 dud monitors I think you should consider that maybe there's another culprit.

Good news on those flys.. they will be in stock tomorrow!.
I just added x3 new ones today.
MRCFT-216, 224, & 249.

I agree, I've had a VP for about the same amount of time, with no problems. As Deadly said, if you are running though monitors like that, then maybe it's something else.....

The thing they all have in common is that they are installed in Ms. Pacs that have been powered up for 24/7 since they were installed in 2007. I have 2 of the dead chassis out so I can do some trouble shooting. Looking at the ones I have out, I don't see any physical signs of failure. I have checked the horizontal output trans. and one gives me a steady 2.3 M ohm reading with the red lead on center leg and black lead on outer legs. The other on chassis #2 reads 6.5 M ohm and 8.5M ohm when the leads make first contact and then the resistance climbs as you would expect. I have several flybacks on order since I have no way to test the ones I have. For you guys that have the experience, I'm open to suggestions on directions to go with these. Of course Happ will gladly charge me $75/chassis + parts + shipping both ways to fix my problem. I've got enough of these monitors. It's time I've learned how to troubleshoot them. What other test equipment do I need to troubleshoot the flybacks. I have my Fluke multi-meter so far.

Why would you suspect the flybacks when you DO hear the start-up static ? That's an indication of HV coming up IMHO.

Also, just out of curiosity, why are these pacs on 24/7 ? Are they really being played all that time ?

If the flyback blew then you most likely have a burn spot near it where a cap or resistor burnt up....
