Dead Taito Space Invaders Board?

I started my arcade collection with a Taito B&W Space Invaders Cocktail a couple of weeks ago.
It was working except for a couple of dead sounds, which I was still building up the nerve to try to and repair.

Today whilst playing it, the screen filled with garbage characters and started flashing. I turned it off, and back on. Now I only get 3 flashing symbols in the top left of the screen (see the attached jpeg).

If I put a coin in and press start, I don't get the game sounds, so I guess it's not a problem with the display circuitry.

Any ideas on things to try, or what might be the problem?

(I've just ordered a taito compatible logitech bootleg SI board from andysarcade to try swapping in, but I don't want to fry that board if the problem is somewhere else.)

I've just put a meter to it.
I'm getting 12.11V and 5.09V going to the board measured at the top edge connector.

I feeling more confident it's a PCB thing and not a PSU problem. Maybe RAM/ROM?

Anyone want to have a go at repairing it if I send the board? I'm based in the UK.

Thanks for the tip.

The soundboard doesn't have any socketed ICs. I'll check the other two layers tomorrow, and let you know i get on.

There were only 6 socketed chips (presumably the ROMS - SV02, SV04, SV06, SV09, SV10, SV0H).

I tried reseating these, reseating the ribbon connectors, and giving the edge connectors a quick rub with a pencil eraser.

I also checked the voltages on the other edge connector 5V and 12V were ok, -5V was at -5.66V is that ok?

Anyway, I'm still getting the same flickering characters in the top left corner.

Whilst I had the board out, I noticed the traces on the bottom layer looked wrinkled (see attachment). The other two layers looked fine. Is this a problem? If so is there anything that can be done about it?

Those traces are fine, it just happens over time.
