Hey Klovers,

I got an opportunity to pick a complete Police 911 2 for 60$.

The seller initially tell me that game needs to be reprogramed (Pretty sure it's a RTC issue).

I ask the seller to send me picture of the error but it seems that it's not powering up anymore (it was according to him, pretty sure it's an easy fix).

If it's an RTC issue is it possible to fix it with the new NVRAM dump and a new RTC?

Convert it to a Police 911 (or other conversion)? Do a Mame light gun cabinet? (with a vertical monitor?)

Thank you for your help! :)

Grab it.

Start with the simple: Check that power is getting to the unit from the line cord. Work on from there.

A lot of these issues turn out to be bad (pinched, cracked, broken cords) wiring, or bad fuse holders.

I had a BBH that was twitchy - if you pushed the unit, it would power off. Turned out the fuse holder was in two pieces, and pushing the unit a little allowed them to separate - no connection.

The price is really good.

The power issue doesn't stress me at all it was more the RTC issue (it's a guest there). BUT it seems it's fixable :)

Is it possible to convert it to something else other than police 911?

Being a vertical cabinet, not really. You could add the gloves and swap over to mocap boxing though. Mocap uses the same motion sensors and monitor.

RTC failure will not kill the Game. RTC is a simple fix. Dead however is not and easy fix. The most common failure I see on Viper system is the CPU coming loose. I have 50/50 success rate getting CPU to reseat with reflow. Guessing theres oxidation or something on pads of BGA not allowing reflow. If after checking the obvious, you will most likely need to find replacement Viper for it.

Dead to some people could also be a bad monitor... I believe they usually came with D9200s, which aren't the most reliable monitors... and a bit of a hassle to work on.

But, for $60, it seems like a good project if you've got the room and don't mind poking around in there. It's a really fun game (I own one), though I personally prefer the original Police 911.

I pick-up the cabinet this morning. It s seems that the previous owner forgot to put the powersupply switch at on :).

All the parts seems to work. Except that i have the famous "Conversion Failed" error.

So it seems that i will need another RTC.

It's been a few years since I've posted but I do have a police 911 2 arcade. I am also getting an RTC error. I saw that one of you said it's an easy fix. Can someone walk me through the process and what I need? Not trying to highjack. Just figured it was related. Thanks

Lots of other threads on this. It is the same for games that use the VIPER PCB. JP3, Police 911, Warzaid, MoCap, etc.

You'll have to desolder the existing one.

Get a replacement chip and program it. (Looks for the MAME files, it is included.)

Either solder in the chip or a socket (making "next time") easier.

Should you get a NOS chip with a dead battery, some of us are cutting the chip apart and jumpering to a new coin battery and reprogramming it with an external battery.

Good luck.

Not too difficult of a fix. You will need a eeprom burner to burn a new M48T58Y-70PC1 with a dump of its respective timekeeper nvram. Only ver UAA:B of Police 911 2 is dumped in MAME atm. If the timekeeper was soldered instead of socketed, then solder a new socket on for the new timekeeper to make future timekeeper replacing a lot easier.

Thanks for the reply. I did a search prior to posting and came back with too many results. I don't have any programming equipment. Nor do I have much experience with solder. Sounds like I should get the socket if mine don't have one. Could you point me to the how-to thread? I don't mind trying my hand at this. Just don't want to mess the board up.

If you don't have a desoldering gun, don't do it yourself.

You can do it with desoldering braid or a solder puller, but it will be harder.

Lots of member offer repair services for this. I would recommend either those in this thread offering to do it or irepairsega.

Cool. Thanks

If you don't have correct tools to pull the RTC I recommend just sending it in. Solder braid alone will not pull the 5v and ground solder points and will just rip up the eyelets.
