I just recently picked up a GORF machine, which unfortunately is not doing too well.

The lights (marquee, ranks, etc) all light up, the monitor has neck glow and the screen pulses when the machine is shut off. I can also hear a weird buzzing sound coming from the play counter on the coin door.

However, nothing appears on the screen, and no sounds can be heard, no matter if the volume is turned all the way up.

I've checked the fuses, and they are all good. I've also cleaned the connectors on the boarset.

I've checked my voltages at the board (coming from the power supply) and they are good. However, the +12 volt line out of the boardset is putting out nothing.

So basically, I am not really sure what to do next.

those "chips" should be like that. Pretty sure they are jumpers to determine what game the card is being used in and/or what roms its using. The rom cards are used in several midway games(wizard of wor, robbie roto probably others)

check to see if the pcb cage is getting volages the connector on the bottom of the cage is labeled whats going into it.

Gorf can have many problems. power supply is high on that list so check that first. most of the lights on you see are probably not going through the power supply.

Those weird chips are just jumpers to strap the board for proms/eproms. Start by checking your voltages coming out of the power supply. Also check the connector on the power supply for burnt connections. I think its a thick yellow wire on the output side which is usually almost always burned on these.

Okay, thanks for the suggestions guys. I have a new multimeter coming in next week, so I'll be able to check up on the voltages then. I will make sure to come back to this thread with my results.

I'm definitely glad to hear those chips are meant to look like that. I'd just never seen anything like them before, so I assumed the worst.

Hopefully, there aren't any more underlying issues!

cinematronics pcbs does a smiliar thing..

Ok, I got my multimeter in and checked some voltages.

All the voltages going into the board from the power supply are fine (+5, +12, -5, etc.) They were a little high or low (by one or two volts) but I adjusted them to their assigned value.

Then, I checked the values coming out of the board. My +5 and -5 volts are fine, but my +12 volt line is almost completely dead (only about 70 millivolts on the meter).

Does this mean I need a new boardset? All I know is that +12 volts is coming in, but nothing is coming back out.

I'd pull the board out, get a nice bright light, and start following the traces to see what's supposed to put that +12 there.
