Customer called me to tell me their DDR2 Exceed no longer boots, and it just stops at a CMOS failure and something about "defaults loaded". I tried getting them to hold the TEST button in to go through the reset, but that didn't work. I'm thinking the battery died. Does this sound right?

And the last time I had to replace one (in a DDR Extreme), it was an M48T58Y. Does that sound like what I'd need for this one? I'd like to get one before I go out so I can replace it if necessary...

not that I'm any kind of expert when it comes to arcade games(I'm a rookie) but that error sounds just like when the Cmos battery on one of the PCs in my house fail.(I've had to change two cr2032 batteries so far on slightly older PCs.)

First of all, there's no DDR "2 Exceed". He probably has a Pump it UP Exceed 2. Different company, different hardware -- Andamiro pioneered PC-based hardware; now, nearly everything they make runs on off-the-shelf components with a custom I/O board here and there.

Operating on that assumption, most likely the lithium battery on the MK6 motherboard is shot. (Exceed 2 will ONLY run on an MK6.) MK6 is just a PC with a custom USB I/O, this is just your bog standard PC BIOS CR2032 battery in a holder. I assume you know what to do.

All the cabinet buttons/sensors go through the USB I/O which isn't even initialized until the actual game is handed off to. TEST won't do anything until you've got a credit counter on the screen. (Bring a PS/2 keyboard!)

Thanks. I had him open it up and look for a CR2032-type battery, but he couldn't find one. Anyone got a pic as to where it is? Will he have to remove the casing on the computer to get to it? If so, I might as well make the drive and do it before he fucks it up.

And I always keep a keyboard in the work truck for just these types of occasions...

I suppose I can drag my machine out from the wall and take pictures after work today.

I just took a look at a pic of the motherboard online. The battery is right next to the IDE headers, which IIRC are concealed beneath the HDD tray. You'll have to take the HDD out and set it aside, then it should be right there.

Just an update to let y'all know that I went out to look at it today, and it was the 2032 battery that was dead. Luckily I took a new one along, as well as a keyboard for resetting the CMOS settings, and it's playing fine once again...
