I asked this of a couple people a while back, but the northeast was buried in snow at the time and nobody could help me then. But I need to know this week:

In the picture below, there is a connector that has 2 wires (IIRC) that I circled below. Unfortunately, the wires came out of the connector and need to be put back. I have no wiring diagram, so is there anyone with access to one of these games that can get me a pic, pinout, or description to help me put it back?

Thanks...

ah, you need the wire colors. I'm back in the area working 7 days a week (or roughly every single day from now until October) so I'll see what I can conjure up for you. you just need the wire colors to put back in the connector and not tracebacks to where the wires need to go right?

I recently put a new power supply in our DDR. I guess I finally discovered the cause of the random "blackout" problem -- low +5. pos PSU I replaced didn't even have an adjustment pot, just an empty hole. hah

Yep, we're replacing the CD-ROM and when I was attempting to disconnect that plug, the wires pulled out. I just need to know which goes where on the connector.

And do you still have that link to the disc image?

ah yes. sorry to be a male reproductive organ, I didn't get around to opening it up today. but the image is still here: http://www.organizedmassconfusion.org/uploads/ddr/ddr8game.iso

I recently burned a new cd for ours. seemed to have boot issues from the crappy cd I got with the kit, in addition to the old power supply shitting the bed.

I will get it tomorrow for sure. and to eliminate any confusion, I do mean Tuesday.

as promised...

all wires are in the order of left to right as they would appear coming from the back of the game's main board.

1P/2P connectors:
black, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, brown

red connector: (probably the one you asked for?)
black, red, green, blue, yellow, orange, purple, brown, white, grey

small white connector:
red, black

I left the cab open, in case there's anything else you needed. but I need to know by tomorrow, we have a boys and girls club coming for a party on Thurs.

EDIT: good god, you DID ask about the little white one, lol. red and then black. :)

Well, that's great - thanks! But there are 6 spots. So - looking at that picture I posted and assuming that pin 1 is to the left and pin 6 is to the right, where do red and black go?

1 2 3 4 5 6

fudge

red, black, the rest are empty.

that applies to all the wire colors I posted above, left to right, whatever's left at the end is just empty. see, Konami actually made something easy.

For some reason i have the impression that the two wires were whitish in color. Can you take a pic and post it?

for what it's worth, when I was replacing the power supply, there was a red and a black wire much like the ones coming out of that connector. they were way thinner than the other ones, and they ran to the +5 and ground on the PSU. I never followed them back though, these cabs are next to fucking impossible to work in. the way how the JAMMA harness and all those other connectors have to pop up through the handle on the slide-out board is absurd as well.

did you want me to do a traceback on the red and black wires to see where they go? I don't have a camera here.

Not even a cameraphone?

Just get me a reference like I mentioned above, and then say:

1-red
2-empty
3-empty
4-black
5-empty
6-empty

or whatever it is. I don't care where they go in the game. if I have a problem, I'll trace it back and figure it out myself...

I figured it out. I read this the other night, according to some hardcore DDR freaks, but I figured "wtf do these geeks know?" :)

that connector is what drives the NEONS on the subs.

1-Red
2-Black
3-empty
4-empty
5-empty
6-empty

I even unplugged it to verify. you'll see the wires attached to the backs of the subs inside. my red wire had some black heatshrink on it... not sure if that was broken before or what, but the wires attached to the subs on mine were red and black. perhaps those white wires you speak of were the ones they splice into the connector at.

and out of dumb curiosity.... I started playing DDR. I got insulted by its difficulty... and went 'round the way to play Dance Maniax.

now I'm sweaty. thanks mod.

like that. rotated for accuracy. I even drew in the wire colors. :)

yeah, wouldn't affect the operation of the game at all, just won't be as aesthetically pleasing without the neons flashing.

ie: you can test the game to make sure it's booting with the new disc/drive before you fix it.

also, on ours, it takes forever to boot up. it should go with the self check screen, drive check, some other bullshit, then a white screen, then it'll "load" the game, and then it should start up.

also, I'm trying to figure out what each connector does, since there doesn't seem to be one single gd resource on the actual hardware for these, just a bunch of anime nerd fanboy sites.

So how do I test it out of the game? I thought you said that wasn't a VGA output there.

this game is in a big mansion, so I have no problem going out there, getting thru security, driving a mile or so down a driveway to the house, then going downstairs to the game - and then trying it out.

The funny part will be if this doesn't fix it (new cd-rom and new cd). I don't know why else it would give a CDR error on bootup....

I'm not sure what the deal is with the VGA port, I don't remember talking about that with you ever, but we dropped a Makvision tri-sync in ours (the old shitbox Sharp Image monitor had some MAJOR issues) and instead of dicking around with adapting the video signal connector from the stupid jap connector we ran a VGA cable on it.

I did the same thing with Dance Maniax when I was borrowing a D9200 for it.

I think it still outputs 15k, the VGA port to my understanding was for performance purposes, like hooking up to a projector (also evident by the RCA aux out jacks on the side of the top box, those are supposed to link inside to the RCAs on the back of the machine for sound output). a regular computer monitor wouldn't work with it if it were 31k anyway, unless you had a very old one.

as for testing it out if it doesn't boot, I'm not sure. I can't remember if any of the dipswitches activates test mode, I only remember one of them decided the boot sequence, which also doesn't make a lick of sense, isn't the only media source for these a cd-rom drive? lol

Okay, installed new CD-ROM (finally got it) and bench tested using JAMMA harness and CGA monitor - and it works.

Going to install it now...
