Anyone ever dealt with one of these? I have a service call scheduled in the morning for one that is giving some sort of error message on the screen. I'm not sure which type of battery it uses, but I have a CR2032 to take a long.

Any other common issues I should be aware of besides power supply?

I'd pop mine open, but I'm still in FL. :/

run some searches on the boardset "Bemani System 573 Digital" (the Analog model was for all versions prior to 3rd Mix, FYI) (searching for DDR-anything gives you the damn phonebook for all the pos console ones)

there has to be some method of battery backup in these, the shots I saw of the main board didn't look like there was a conventional battery.

poke around inside I guess. knowing it being Japanese, it's probably soldered on somewhere.

Went and saw the game. It starts to boot, then gives the following error:

CDR: BAD

HARDWARE ERROR... RESET

Then it reboots. Over and over.

I'm guessing it means the CD-ROM is bad, and from my reseacrh, this is a common error. Also, that I have to replace it with a CD-ROM that is NOT R/RW and is 24x speed or better.

Does this sound right to anyone in the know? I've also read that it's picky about the CD-ROM and still might not work properly with a new drive. Anyone have a pointer as to one that will work?

Thanks...

i took mine out and carried to computer place and they found one better all i had to do was chnage the jumper on the back

lol

did they change it from Master to Cable Select or was it vice versa?

couple things you can try mod is making sure it's getting 12V and that maybe the laser on the drive isn't dirty. considering you say it's DDR Extreme, it's bootleg. there's a POSSIBILITY that the disc itself could be bad too, since it's a CDR disc.

Did I mention that the disc is an Office Depot disc and has written on it "8 Mix"?

Cleaning the disc didn't help. And it gives the same error whether the disc is in there or not...

yeah, what I'm saying is the disc itself is probably bad. (my discs from the kit I bought had "holes" in the surface, that's why I ripped them right away with Nero -- there were no install or game errors however)

ironically, I have the install and game disc images on my laptop down here right now. :x

you know... if you want to go that route. otherwise I'm sure you can find it on bittorrent somewhere.

well, I'll need help at some point. When I was removing the connector to pull the computer out, two wires pulled out of one of the 6-pin connectors, so I'll need to know where they go back.

Also, it appears to be a JAMMA connector, and it looks like there is a VGA output connector. Will I be able to throw this on my bench while testing with a computer monitor to see it boot, even without dance pads connected or anything?

it is fully JAMMA, I actually messed up the JAMMA harness on ours when I was trying to get the system board out (the cage part.. what a garbage design btw), some of the pins pulled out, I had to snap them back in with a little precision flathead.

the other connector you speak of... I can't remember off-hand.

the VGA port is just another video output. the original monitor in ours, the degauss coil took a shit on it (before we got it), the whole tube was garbage, wound up junking it and throwing a Makvision tri-sync in, and instead of messing with the Jap connector they use on the original monitor we just tapped it into the VGA port.

I imagine the VGA port and the RCA jacks on the back panel of the cab is for tapping into a projector and a sound system, for like performance purposes.

I won't have access to ours until friday though, permitting my flight isn't delayed. talking about storms in Orlando and freezing rain in Chicago!

if you want me to upload the image for the Game disc let me know. I'll even convert it to ISO if you don't have Nero.

oh, and just in case, the game is standard res, the VGA port has nothing to do with resolution obviously. it's just another way of transmitting the RGB/sync/ground.

I believe you need the pads plugged in in order to test it. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'm pretty sure that's the case. I have a 4th solo machine, so I could take pictures of the inside of mine if you needed reference points. I don't know how different that'd be from the one your working on, but just thought I'd throw in to help if I could.

updates from me, yeah... severe storms in central Florida, freezing rain in Chicago. I'm stuck down here until next week, so, afraid I can't help you here mod. sorry

if you still need an 8th mix disc image though... I can help you there. at least then you can rule out the disc.

Might go that route. It'll be next week before I get to do anything more with it anyway.

As for needing the pads, I'm sure it would give me some error about that, but as I can't even get past the CDR test, I figure I can fix that much so it gets past that. if it then fails due to pads or whatever, i can take it back and reinstall it...

uploading now then. I'll throw you the link in an hour or so. I converted it to ISO. I don't know if there's any difference between the single install/game version and the install and game 2 disc one.

Hi there i am a game Tech Manager at Treasure Island in Bullhead City AZ. We recently bought out a peter piper pizza and i have a DDR max2 7th mix on the floor, throwing the same CDR error. I was wondering if the disc and Security IC did not match if it would cause this issue?? I have no way of testing the disc to verify it is good. All help would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

our machine was a DDR USA originally, when we got the games moved into our location and turned it on, ours too had DDR 7th mix with a bootleg disc, Japanese language, etc.

it's likely yours is a bootleg too, and MAYBE the disc went bad. some jackasses threw the security rom for 7th mix away ... would've liked to be able to switch between the two games, but oh well. :(

I still have the 7th mix disc laying around the office there, but alas, I'm still on vacation, and don't have it ripped on here. I sent mod a link for DDR 8, not sure if he got it or not to see if that was the problem.

Yeah definitely a bootleg disk, it was printed on someones computer as far as i can tell. The issue with the game is that it has a 3rd mix Security IC in it and a 7th mix CD. I think i am going to order a upgrade kit for it considering i can not find the security rom anywhere for sale. Thanks again.

when I was trying to find some info on mod's problem, I ran across this page: http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewthread.php?threadid=2825&page=2

it's a good read pertaining to legit/bootleg mixes and the various boot chips/security carts.

the bootlegs apparently override the need for the security cart. but there's "patched" versions of the legit discs that circumvent this as well, and just need the original Konami rom.

my machine unfortunately lacked the Konami rom. :(

My Machine also lacks that Original Rom, i however talked to a guy over at betson and said that you need a LG8164b dvd drive to fix the cdr error. I am going to try this and we will see.
