Working on a Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix. The CD ROM seems to be dead. Tried a different one.

ANyone have the manual of worked on these before?

What is your problem now.Is the CD ROM don't have power or is your disk have problem.
Do you get any message on screen?

I know that the CD/DVD was bad... I get something like "CDROM - Error" then it reboots.

Tried putting in a different CD/DVD, but not sure if it needs to be somethign special.

Is there a manual for this somewhere?

I don't think you can find manual for what you are looking for.
Not all cd rom or dvd rom work for this game.
This Hitachi / LG GDR-8163B Black IDE 16x DVD-ROM Drive work for DDR.
I have test it on my DDR and it works.Try a different one may be you are lucky.

Sounds like the drive is just dead. It happened on mine when I first got it. Just get a new one, make sure it's set to master (as roothorick said), and put the cd back in.

If you switched the drive already and it was still giving the "cd-rom error", its likely the drive isn't compatible. Here's a list of known comparable drives:

Compaq 179137-701
LG GDR-8164B (confirmed great for analog mixes)
Lite-On XJ-HD166S
Lite-On LTD-163
Lite-On LTR-40125S
Toshiba XM-5702B
Matsushita CR589B (this is the stock drive; works with analog mixes)
Matsushita SR8589B
MITSUMI CRMC-FX4830T
NEC CDR-1900A
SONY DRU-810A
LG GH22NP20 Multi DVD Rewriter

there was some random model Sony drive I got in a free comp that looked almost the same as the one that was in our 8th mix that I swapped in and it magically worked lol

I didn't take down the model number, and if it ain't broke... I ain't touching it.

Yeah, the list I posted up is by no means an end all be all. I'm sure there are more drives out there that will work. These are just tested models that other people have confirmed working.
