Daytona...What to look for when buying

I would turn the game on and let it run the startup tests to see if you get any errors. You can go to the menu screen and run the self tests.

things i'd check...

* seats slide/adjust with ease
* shifters (silver are original, black ball knobs are happ
replacements and actually function better)
* wheel operation and is feedback correct.
(i.e. does it pull to the side, even when driving straight?)
* are the speech calls correct? (pitboss says relevant things,
or is it all fucked up?)
* check for correct sprite colors. odd car colors could signify rom problems.

play it a a couple times, of course.

Thanks! Where's the test on these things? Coin door area?

All the knobs and buttons are in the coing door. I would set the wheel feedback to 100% to make sure. I feel that 80%feedback is really 50% of 100% if you understand. I would also check if it's linked.

One thing that's good about Daytona is the manual is readily available online. I wish I could find a manual for Sega Super GT. I picked one up this Saturday and trying it out was a bag of mixed feelings. I was happy to see that both monitors worked good and that both sides were networked. I was a bit dissapointed that the driver board isn't working and there is no steering feedback and the right side doesn't register movement on the steering wheel.

I haven't gotten a chance to check out the steering pot or go through the tests but will be sure to do so today if I find time.

Good luck with yours, definitely try them out and make sure everything is good on them so you don't have to fuss with them later. I wasn't able to try mine out due to them being in a storage unit. I got a great deal though even with these issues.

I like the Sega driving games better than the Midway Cruisn' games since they're a bit more realistic and not as cartoony.
