I saw that description, but only attributed to ROMs for MAME. Interesting to see it in a real cabinet.

The MAXX version is a real upgrade.
It came out in 2001

It replaces 4 eproms
(..one of which is special chip adapted to fit in the socket ) [see pics]

There is also the GTX 2004 version
which has many similar features as MAXX,
but also allows you to customize your car with special "add-ons"
like better tires, bigger engine, better body, etc..

Kinda neat, but once you have a "super car" you always win
and have no real satisfaction... ;-)

I've owned all 3 variations and like the GTX best.

NB. In order to link the games, the must all have matching rom sets
(ie. can't mix normal with MAXX chips )
