I've owned my Daytona USA a little over a year. I don't turn it on a whole lot unless im having a party or friends over or something. So this last week I had some friends stop by, I plug it in, its fine on its own for the first hour or sow. We go grab some wings and beer, come back, and the 3D is all screwy. Viewports on player 1 and 2 are all messed up, all you see is grass and background. So if I unplug and replug, its back to normal. But the last two times I've left it on for a few hours, its done this.

Anyone with some sega knowledge know whats going on? I know the resister jumper trick if it boots up with bad 3D but I would like to know what I can do when the game starts freaking out after being turned on for awhlie. This model2 stuff is complex man, so man boards and things to deal with.

Thanks!

Answering my own question!!

Are my fans clean? A overheating PCB may produce a funny issue. I will check!

See? It helps to post your question, you start to realize these things!

If the issue returns, check for voltage of 4.79v-5.01v at the filter boards, and not the power supply. Go across any white and yellow wires and adjust the 5volts on the power supply as needed. This, I found out, is a very critical voltage for the correct operation of these units.

Yeah the Sega Model 2 CPU/ROM/Video/COM stack doesn't use anything but +5VDC, the +12v rail is just for the fans. I would do what Bluestreak says and measure it at the filter boards to ensure there is not voltage drop in the harness. If you can also clean the boards with an air duster or compressor. I've had to do that with all my Sega Model 2 systems.....they always tend to overheat

The video board is highly susceptible to cracked traces. This usually results in the display filled with streaks, strange patterns and lots of black or white artifacts. The only true fix is a board reflow and I think Ken (iRepairSega.com) Westerfield is able to do this. (about $75 fee)

based on my experience with the Daytona USA in our arcade this is caused by the voltages walking on the power supply... I've seen them skyrocket up to 5.4 on their own, probably due to the abuse that the kids put them through, and the power supply essentially being mounted at their feet.

yellow is +5, white is ground in Segaland(tm). if you're really clever you can meter at an IC inside the cage, I got ours dialed in very very well now. you can't use the ROMs though, you have to use one of the little input chips, and if you don't know how to do this, don't try it, just stick to the filter board.

I've had this issue on both my Daytona.

First time it was a bad ROM and or socket

Second time a power supply that would be adjusted to 5.07 but pull way down during game play

That VR thing is a crap shoot.

Ken from Irepairsega.com is a wizard with these board and very reasonable
