I just got a set of twin daytona USA machines. The start button on one machine does not work - game runs but won't start and the lights don't light. I swapped the start button boards and found that both start button boards work. Now I'm trying to figure out if it is a connection issue or a board issue. Any suggestions on figuring this out would be appreciated.

make sure one machine is set to master and the other is set to slave or something to that effect if you have em connected..

if not connected togther make sure theyre both set as master..

If you want to know for sure it's a wiring issue before getting dirty with your multimeter (I don't blame you), try swapping the whole game boardset from one side to the other. If it follows the boardset, you have a board problem. If it stays on the one side, you'll have to get your hands dirty with the tedious process of troubleshooting the cabinet wiring.

I know from playing with Daytona in MAME that the game won't boot without a network if it's set to master OR slave... if they're not connected they need to be on SINGLE. (I don't think it has a master/slave option actually... IIRC it has a SINGLE/MULTI setting and a machine link number setting.)

That said, if that was the problem, the game would show a pretty obvious error telling you the link system has failed.

can be wiring issue. all input wires (start button included) were going to i/o board. it's rather small board besides a big 4 stacked main boards. check/swap them.

Daytona Start Button Issue

I swapped the two start button boards. They both work so it is a wiring or board issue. Still trying to track it down. Thanks for all the responses.

Thanks for the advice

The problem was a loose connector on the I/o board. Got it connected and the start button worked right away. Now have to figure out why the force feedback is not working on the steering wheel.

Thanks for the advice.
