I just picked up a twin Daytona and neither side has sound. I don't think it is the sound pots because every once in awhile I will get one random sound out of one side (example- may get just a car passing sound or other sound effect), but not all sounds intermittently. Looking at the LEDS on the boards- All boards have their power LEDS going except the sound board. It does have two power LEDs on it (one on the main and one on the riser card), but there is a bank of lights (green and red) that don't light up at all. Anyone know if these are supposed to be lit when running? Suggestions?

area I would check first would probably be the sound amplifier boards. for fun, I think it would also be useful to check that you're getting 12 volts too.

however, another problem could be that your speakers are blown too. if I'm not mistaken, if you have a blown speaker on these, it can kill the IC on the sound amp board. :(

so try running a resistance check across the speaker terminals too.

I'm having the same problem on one of my SSGT. I was able to narrow it down to the sound board since I was able to swap boards. Now I am working on swapping the ROMs. you may have the same problem as I.

Good to know... my initial thought is sound board too, as only certain sounds come through every once in awhile. I have a rom burner and can reburn roms. I am thinking my next course of action is to pull the rom boards, verify the checksum on the roms, reseat all the chips, test for voltage and see what comes back.

The way the caps on the daughter board are facing upward and appear bent every which way is a bit of a concern, if stuff fell from the back of the cabinets straight down, they very well could land right on these caps/board and wreck havoc.

When your functioning sound board is working, do you the cluster of LEDs in the bottom right corner (green and red) illuminate at all? If so, which ones?

Will give this a look... Thanks...

There is no difference between the functioning sound board and the semi working one. All the LEDs flash. I'll check again tonight

Awesome... Good to know since none of mine are flashing at all.... If you could verify that would be great!!

you got juice going to it? :x

make sure everything's hooked up. /captainobviousmoment :)

Checked my machine lastnight. the Red LED should be on for power. The green LEDs are off. on both. Not sure why but I was in the middle of swapping roms.

Thanks, I haven't had a chance to look at them yet, but this is helpful. I won't be able to get to them for about a week, so for the meantime, I just play them without sound... The more I play it, the more stuff works... Sound was working on the left side last night for about 15 minutes, it just came on randomly. I think this game has been sitting un-powered for a few years in someone's basement. The family I bought it from had it in their summer home up here....

Just some follow-up, had a chance to swap in some known good boards for this. It is definitely the sound board with the roms on it.

My procedure/findings-

Original Non-working Boards- When game was on, both boards (daughter board on sound board and main sound board) had red LED light on showing power. Voltage was tested and within spec. No LED lights (red, green on main sound board) would light showing signal/operation.

Pulled board and reseated all roms/chips- no change... Verified checksums on roms, all good. Reinstalled board- no change.

Swapped amp board, line filter board, (mixer?) board- (all known working boards) no change...

Dropped in known working sound board.... Works 100%

LED lights change according to what sound loop is playing- so in attract mode, LED1 (green) is solid, in race mode LED 2 (red) is solid, etc....

So definitely an issue with the sound board itself....
