Just got a daytona USA upright, and noticed a lot of the background polygons are missing at different times, mostly on the expert track. In some places the whole track disappears.
Does this mean I need a new video board? Or something else
Appreciate any advice

Thanks, sounds about right as there's defiantly a power issue, when I first got it home and switched it on, only the marquee and the monitor came on, but there was no power to the boards, after a couple of minutes of being on it sprung to life, then shortly after the track disappeared. Hopefully just need a new power supply then

Measure your 5 volts at the filter board with a volt meter set on 20 volts DC setting or whatever is close to 5 volt setting.
That's the board that all the wires are going into on the large metal box that holds the CPU, Rom, Communication bd, etc under the seat. Measure between a white and yellow wire on the outside of the metal box so you don't short anything out.
(not sure of your electronics experience, so just explaining in detail in case you are not familiar with measuring voltages) Should be right at 5.01. If not adjust the 5v pot on the power supply to get it there. I had to readjust mine about 3 times before it got stable. May have been a dirty POT. If it doesn't stay at between 4.79v-5.01v then replace the power supply like you said earlier.

Id better invest in a volt meter then, never used one before, so thanks for the tips. trying to find a replacement power supply just in case, the originals 12v 3A, and like i said before takes a few minutes of being powered on or warmed up(the marquee and monitor stay on) before it suddenly powers the boards,(between 2 and 10 mins, sometimes longer)so theres definatly a fault. but cant seem to find a 3A one(looked on ebay and various uk websites). i have a few spare ones from another machines 12v 2.5A and 12v 4A. would these be suitable to try withought damaging anything?or is anything else suitable. iv fixed up a few machines before, but have pretty much no experience on the electronic side of things( as you can prob tell).

Is the fan running on your power supply? The two units we have on location run great, but one day the fan cut out on one and it almost immediately started having graphical issues. I'd just replace it. Old supplies are killers to games.

The replacement power supply in mine shows 15 amp so not sure. I seriously doubt it needed to be that large. According to the original Sega manual, it shows a 150W supply,
I think the 4 amp should work.

Just tried the 4amp one, seems to solve the power delay issue, but not the graphical one. Still need to get a volt meter and see if i can adjust the pot. not had a chance to get one yet The fans runnig ok on the power supply too.
Then ill have to start on the rest of the cab, Just ordered all new art work for both sides as the old was pretty scabby.
Also does anybody know if the upright version was meant to have force feedback steering?
There doesnt seem to be much of a motor on the steering unit, and cant seem to see anything looking like a drive board. so i assume it was only on the sit down version, although various websites say it did have

I just sold an upright that I didn't even work on, and I did not see any FFB motor in it. No drive board either so I don't think they had it.
