I have the chance to grab a "twin" Daytona USA setup for $100. I've only seen it in pics and will have to drive 2+ hours to pick it up, so I would like to know if it's even worth the fuel to get there and back.

All the pics show are the monitor boards and power supplies and they say that "everything under the seats- where most of the boards seem to be on others, has been removed".

Does this mean that ALL of the game hardware has been removed? If it's just the Daytona PCB and not the Sega model 2 mainboards then It would be an easy swap with other model 2 games.

Does this deal sound like it would be worth the trip?

Thanks guys!

If the monitors work it would be a good deal. I too know where some of these are for 100$ for the set non working, i dont have room or a way to get them right now. they are big!!

Thanks for the reply! Do you know if it would it be likely that all the system boards would be under the seats? I've never looked inside one of these style machines.

Too bad I dont live near you. I have a box truck, but no one around here has any games, except for the common outrageously priced repros.

rony2211, yep...thats the same one. I'm going to the auction in Kingsport, TN on 3-12, and was hoping to turn this around and sell it to go towards picking up a game I actually want. I also have a Sega Turbo I'm hoping to have ready by then.

I have the same machines. All the boards are in the base: sound boards, force feedback, mainboards, etc. If it's completely gutted that means all the wiring is gone too. If you had all the boards/wiring it would be good, otherwise it could be very expensive. This pair would be better suited to a console based racer or turning it into something completely different then Daytona.

Thanks shess, I was afraid of that. With the Sega Mark 2 stuff I dont think I'll be picking this up after all. If it was local I would try to talk them down a bit, but fuel and all would just be too pricey for a "project" cab.

Thanks anyways guys!

Well, the people who have it dont seem to know much about arcade machines. They originally said the "drives" were missing. As this game doesn't use "drives", I sent them an email asking if they knew if it were just the game boards missing or if the mark 2 boards were gone too. They replied by just saying that everything under the seats is gone... as I've never opened up one of these machines, I didn't know if all the boards were stored there or not...so I asked.

$100 + $60-$70 in fuel...plus my time and the chance that it's completely gutted, better ask people who know then waste precious time and $$$.

Even if the Boards are missing these Daytona are worth the $100. Daytona Boards were going for a pretty high price about 5 or 6 years ago not sure why but for a period of time they were pretty high priced to get. My guess is the Boards were sold because of their high price value in the past. If you are looking for a project you can find parts again for a resonable price. If you are looking to turn a quick buck without making them complete you might want to pass.

I've been down this road. If you are planning on making this a Daytona again, I say pass. The main boards still go for $250+, and the other boards are not necessarily cheap, either. Also, Daytona is a Model 2 board, which uses a unique wiring harness and drive board set up. The other Model 2 boards (2A, 2B, and 2C) will not plug directly in as you inquired about earlier.

Now, if you are planning on making this a MAME or console driver, then this would be a good cab to start with.

I picked up my Daytona Twin 'working' for $400 locally. I had a board issue with one side and started looking around for a replacement. I couldn't find anything under $350 (at least that's what was offered to me here) I ended up sending the board to ken at Sega to get fixed for $125.

I learned a lot about these games during the troubling shooting..there's a shit load of boards in these things..I'm guessing upwards of 8-9.

The main PCB is located under the seat along with a couple other boards. Then there's a few more under the gas pedal that are a PITA to get too.

The thing are also monsters to move. I had to completely take them apart to get them into my basement. Of course I had no help at the time so I broken them down a little further than I probably. It took me a full 8 hour day from start to finish.

If the PCBs were there it would probably be worth the trip...them thing are expensive!

+1 with what Radiac said. If the boards are missing and you want a daytona, find a working one. Finding every boards and wire harness will cost you a boatload of cash. A twin shouldn't be more than $1k these days.
