So besides a monitor issue with my Daytona USA LE cab, I've got an audio issue. My sound cuts out here and there, and it doesn't sound like the crap that normally comes from a bad volume pot.....though I still wouldn't rule that out.

Does anyone know some common audio issues with Daytona setups? Keep in mind that Daytona uses a separate board for audio, and that board has a smaller topper board that has its own audio outs. The two boards then go through a small mixer board and then to the amplifier.

I haven't ran any tests for voltages and etc. as my digital multimeter has decided to stop measuring voltages......

well the no voltage test thing sure puts a damper on the B+ check on the monitor. lol

depending on if it's a sit-down cab or not, and how much action it gets, it could just be your sound board is plastered in shit. the Daytona at my old job had a sound board shit the bed one night and instinctively I pressed down on the roms on it, and neglected that the sockets were covered in like little wood chippings and other crud.. mainly cause this was a commercially-operated game with lots of little kids banging the two units around a lot and well.. I smashed some of that wood shit IN one of the sockets and broke the socket. upon much research, I found Sega (naturally) used a non-standard number of legs and couldn't source the part in the usual places... but I found some unused sockets on the game's rom board and stole from there. it was probably the most dangerous repair I ever did.

I don't know any of the wiring pinouts on those, because I never bothered to figure them out, and I also have no real recollection of what the sound board looks like or how it's connected either.. I do remember looking for a sound board on ebay and the bottom half is shared with several other Sega Model 1 and Model 2 games, but the top board is different, I think it was a speech board or something like that.

I would probably pull the amp board and give it a looking over... maybe cold solder or something. if you have an isolated amplifier source, like maybe a TV that you could run the RCA cables to, you could isolate if it's the sound board itself that cuts out or if it's the amp board.

we had a Daytona USA 2 where the amp chip had a hole blown right through it for the front audio. I don't remember if those two games shared the sound hardware, I don't think they did, but I'm sure it's a common failure point, maybe. I'm glad I don't have to fuck with that Daytona anymore though... but I'll miss that game. had many adventures with that twin setup.
