Hey guys, I cant seem to find anything about this in the manual I pulled up online, but I have twin daytona 2's, and they run great as singles, but upon trying to link them up I get the check network connection error. Ive tried every cable combo that I know of, but Im not having any luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, whats the difference between master and slave, and live? Thanks a lot, -Jason

You should have two fiber optic cables to link the two (one xmit and one rcv). One machine needs to be set to master and the other one slave. This can be done in the menu settings. Then reboot them and they should link up.

Right, I figured out that much, but there are two sets of cables for each game, I guess what I really need to know is which cable goes where?

I think there is a red and black cable coming from each one. you might be doing what I did once and are trying to match the colors. Except Im pretty sure on this game the red goes to black on each set. They mix them up.

Thanks for your help, I'll try that out. Also, I dont seem to see a freeplay option in the menu. Is this possible? Thanks, -Jason

well, I've made sure to have red to black, and black to red, had one setup as slave and one as master, and I'm still getting a no carrier message. Ive even tried swapping which is master and which is slave, with no change. Any daytona owners encountered this? I know there are more than a few of us out there..

freeplay is in there somewhere. I forget where but its in the menu. It might be in coin assignments if there is one.

Sorry I dont own one but Ive delivered quite a few and ran into many problems as well. Hopefully someone can help.

for the record I dont ever remember seeing the no carrier message,

There are two receptacles on each machine. One of the receptacles should be emitting a red light. After you hook up the cable to the xmit socket, you can look at the end of the cable you should see a red light. This will go into the rcv of the other machine (the one with no light emitted). So basically you're hooking light to no light. To simplify things I would just bypass the coupler that comes with it. The other cable will hook up just the opposite to the two machines.

Agree 100% with Sarge. Just a couple more comments

1) Ensure one connector on each game has light. If not, you will not get anywhere.

2) Connect a cable to the output emitting light. Ensure you can still see light coming out the opposite cable end.

3) If the optic cable isn't big enough to avoid the coupler, make sure the coupler is in good shape. It's just a SPDIF coupler. I got one at my local Frys for $2. "Shaxon Toslink Extension Adapter".

I've got info about my Daytona 2 and my Super GT @ my web site, if you want some random info.

It sounds like you might have a dead or missing comm board. As others have said, check to see that you are getting a red light in the comm ports when the game is powered up.

Also, and this might be blatantly obvious, but you need to ensure you are linking the same versions up. Power Edition will not link to Battle on the Edge and vice versa.

how do identify power edition and battle on the edge?
i had same problem too. i've compare all the mask rom numbers, they're all the same. using bunch of optic cables, no luck. swapping link board no luck too. i guess the problem lies within another boards.

Masked roms have different parts for standard vs. PE.

Also, PE says power edition while in attract mode, does not have the dome track (it is traditional instead), and has a very cool 4th track. Among other changes.

Getting light out of the cables, they are both the power edition, and are a twin cab setup, they were purchased together, but I am still getting an error message, I tried using an optic coupler I pulled from a Daytona 1 twin cab, but still no luck.

You probably have 1 of them with a malfunction in Comm board, you can check looping the optic between the 2 connectors of each position and program master each pcb to see if they start linked showing ^ 1 player can play ^ or something like that. This will let you know which one has not working comm board. Also check the internal optic fiber cables from coulers to pcb.
BTW, to mrdion, check the country of the 2 pcb, if they don`t match, link will not work..

I have a Frys near by, are these fiber optic cables special or can I get them at Frys also? I've seen fiber optic cables that are called patch cables also....that the ones?

Thanks!

You don´t need a schem for 2 unit communication, is just in-out-out-in, if you have to link more, then it is a little complex. I can scan and post the wiring if needed.
