So after watching the FB marketplace for awhile and stubbled across this lot of 3 Daytona 2s in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Shout out to Jay for selling me these and the help with your buddies in loading them up in the trailer. Made a 3 hour dive each way from Wisconsin to pick these up and I'm excited to start the process of seeing how many of them I can get up and running. I've had them in the garage a few days and spent a good amount of time wiping them down with wet rags, then dry and repeat. I believe they are all intact except for one of the yellow plastic pieces for one of the marquees. I've never done one of these projects but have tinkered with slot machines and other electro-mechanical devices over the years. I know I'll be asking for help on here and appreciate and insight along the way. Also wanted to say thanks to ArcadeTechGW who encouraged me to make the jump and go get these suckers. I have a small home arcade and my kids always love playing the racers in the arcades so I'm really hopeful to get two of these back in business and linked for the game room. Hopeful a reasonable idea since I've got 3 to work with right?
So here's what I know so far along with some pics:
- 1 cabinet powers up, 2 don't. I can't find my multimeter but gonna buy another soon to test the two power supplys on the 2 that won't power up.
- The two that won't power up have some damage to their power chords also and that might be the issue.
- All 3 power supplys were already replaced somewhere along the line and have adapters that run to the native wires and couplers from what I can tell.
The guts:
- All 3 have complete IO boards and other boards.
- I've had to drill out some of the locks to open up the seats and I've not gotten the foot panels off yet, but it all looks to be there.
The good one:
- The one that powers up is playable!
- The screen has some issues and I don't know why. I ran the operator tests and got "good" readouts for the roms and what not.
- Both manual and automatic modes work! (although the shifter is janky and needs replacement)
- The audio front is playing in the back (seat) and there is no back audio, might need a new sound card?
Marquees:
These marquees are BEASTS!
- 2 are complete and the lights work great.
- 1 has a bit of a flicker and missing one side plastic piece.
Coin boxes"
- All three seem to be intact with wiring
- The boards they were connected to that connect to the cabinet lets are shot and will need to be replaced. (I've build cabs and done Tmolding before so no biggy)
- They all seem to be intact, but they have some serious interior issues with rusting and deterioration so not sure if I'll be able to use them in the house due to smell. outsides are fine.
To dos:
- remove rusted screws holding foot rests in place so I can get at the other boards, may need to drill them out.
- Test power supplies of 2 not working
- replace power chords of two not working if last step shows they aren't getting power.
- replace power supply/s if that those don't work
- Verify IO boards are operational by running system tests.
