Hello all! I just joined the forum. I have Ms PacMan an Crusin USA that I bought from a dealer. I just picked up a Daytona USA Twin from a local auction for $829 after tax and fees. The game plays fine and is a lot of fun.

However, both monitors have some screen burn and I want to put in new ones. I am not sure how though. Is it difficult? How heavy are they? 100+ pounds or under? How do I tell if the game has med resolution monitors or standard? Crusin USA has the same size monitor (25"). Could I take that one out and put it in Daytona?

Can LCDs be adapted to fit in there alright? It seems that new adapters or something would be needed for a LCD?

What would all of you do? I have determined that Daytona is more fun to me than Crusin even though Crusin is a "deeper" game.

Also, is there a ROM for Daytona that allows both cabinets to race the field instead of just each other? That is the one upgrade the game needs in my opinion.

Thank you all!

Just north of WR. I could use some help with monitors if you have the know how.

I got it at the auction yesterday. I think one monitor needs some degaussing. I have no idea what that entails though. I have heard new med rez monitors are $400 each.

Usually you can do that with a degaussing coil. I do not have one. Most monitor issues can be solved with a cap kit. You can get them from Bob Roberts. They are pretty easy to install. I think that I have monitor troubleshooting maps for most monitors.

A cap kit wouldn't solve burn in would it? My current plan is to get some bezels, adapters and 26" TVs. I think I can get all that for $500ish.

I have a Crusin USA for sale if you want one. I thought about taking the monitor out of it but the game is very nice and I don't want to part it out.

I would sell Crusin for $500 to pay for monitors.

Nope...burn it is pretty much a killer. You can put a tinted overlay on the monitor and hide it. You can also search for a compatible tv donor tube. That might be the way to go.

I hear you on the crusin usa...really would like a Daytona though. It will happen someday. I have too many projects now.

27" LCD's fit perfect inside there from speaker grill to speaker grill. I built a small shelf platform to have the LCD's sit on and screwed the base right into the shelf. They don't move anywhere and looks great. Then you can just simply use these converters to change the video from cga to vga.

http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/video-converters-and-tools/23-cga-vga-hd-video-converter.html

Total cost..
27" LCD = Paid $338 including shipping for TWO of them from overstock.com
cga-vga converter = $85 including shipping for TWO from paradisearcade
$423 total for me in my dual daytona cab.

I eventually sold them and now have a gutted wing wars (same cab) and gaming PC's inside running emulators and PC racing games. You can see the LCD's how well they fit and good they look in the videos.

Thanks Man! I picked up two of the converters and two bezels from a local dealer. He was telling me 26" computer monitor LCDs. There isn't a big difference between 26 and 27. Is 27 even available? I had a hard enough time finding 26" online.

My bezels have a widescreen opening of 26". So the 26" monitors are probably 25.5" and the 27" are most likely 26.5".

Really stupid question - do the monitors come out through the front? I really don't see how they possibly come out the back. Can I remove the side panels?

You put the monitors in from the front, of course removing the glass. There are still many 27" lcds out there.. probably more than 26's. If you get a LCD with VESA mounts in the back you could easily get some vesa mounts that hang from the inside top to the LCD... would work great.

And the old monitors come out through the front also.. just be careful and make sure to discharge them first.

BTW, my glass is tinted.. not sure about yours.. but you dont even need a bezel.. looks great and hides the insides well

Thanks!

I think I can get a refund on the bezels if I don't use them. My dealer friend is interested in purchasing the old monitors.

I just looked the inside of the game over. This really doesn't seem very complicated. I found the red, green, yellow, etc input from the motherboard to the current video card. I'm guessing that the NEW tiny video card steals that set of wires and I shall join them onto the wires that go to that card.

Question: Where do I hook the black and white power cables on the new card to? Do I need to connect them directly to the game's power supply in the bottom of the cabniet or can I link them to the power source on the old video card?

I do like how the monitor plugs into that video card. That saves me having to cut the cables on the new monitors.

My new video card is slightly different than the one in the picture on the instructional site... my card has six wires whereas the one in the picture has five.

Daytona's current setup is also slightly different than the picture. First, it only has one connector thingy (at least only one that I can find) and it has only five wires.

Each has the Red, green and blue wires. So that's easy.

The game then has a white wire which I must assume goes to the gray one on the new video card.

The odd thing is the game then finishes with a blue/white striped wire and the new card goes on to have a yellow wire and a black wire.

QUESTION: So do I connect the game's one wire (blue/white) with the new card's yellow wire AND black wire? One wire to two?

I am thinking (game to card):

Red = Red
Green = Green
Blue = Blue
White = Gray
Blue/white combo color = yellow and black (two wires)

I haven't actually looked at the game's power supply but the explanation makes perfect sense in the directions.

I know you said 27" is what you got. I can't find anything close to the deal you received at about $170 per monitor. Best I can seem to find is $230ish for refurbished 27" samsung monitors.

I'm currently leaning towards 26" Samsung TVs from Best Buy at $250 each = $535 after taxes. I figure if Daytona ever completely breaks, I can still use the TVs for something else.

The dimenions listed for most 27" monitors are too wide to fit in the Daytona cabniet. I think these are probably misprints but I don't want to wait for something that isn't going to fit.

There are also 26" RCA Tvs at Walmart for $199 each. I'm not sure if those have auto-on though. I guess I need to go to the store.

Right now I am going to bed. Thank you all for your help.

Why would you spend so much money when you could get a couple of tubes out of old TV's for next to nothing that will produce a superior picture?

Excellent question = I lack the technical skill for that. Aside from the question about the wiring, I am pretty sure I can do the LCD conversion.

Ill take some pictures of inside the sega cabinets with the LCDs in them so you can see how I did it. I should have them posted tonight. The frame or casing of the LCD is bigger than the width of speaker grill to speaker grill but they easily fit into the cabinet itself with a lot more room left. Have to kind of angle them in and once they are in you push them back towards the front. The LCD itself of a 27" screen is almost exact from the opening (speaker grill to speaker grill). So anything 27" and under will work fine.

Thanks. I am planning on 26"s as they are a combined $110 cheaper and available locally (I think). I just need to figure out if a VGA to HDMI cable will work. I am not sure if the TVs have a VGA hookup.
