Well I've been really busy over the past few weeks. Nothing like framing on Xmas at 7:30AM before the daughter gets up for Santa. :)

There was a bit of interest in days 1-5 so I thought I'd share some pics. I took lots more but I can't post em all on here, right?

Let me know your thoughts.

That's the way to do it. Shouldn't have a problem getting games in through that door!!! Do you have enough games to fill it already?

Looks like fun. Congratz on almost getting there. You must be more excited than Frizzy on Tallywhacker Twofer Tuesday down at the Phallus Palace. Can't wait to see it completed.

It's 960 square feet. There is an 8x8 workshop and then another 128 square feet for a sitting area. That leaves 768 square feet for games.

I have 28 and 40 on my wish list. By the time I get 40 in there I think it will be pretty tight.

LOL

It is exciting. It's been overwhelming, frustrating, worrysome and quite exciting. It's also been a real education. If anyone has any advice on installing sheetrock and vinyl siding, I'm open for suggestions & ideas. Today I'm installing insulation.

I'm surprised your home owner's association let you put a building like that up. I can't even put in a tool shed if it's too tall and goes over the fence. :)
What a building like that cost if you don't mind me asking...

The bigger the sheet of dryall the better for less seams. Are you going to skim coat with plaster? Gives a nice hard finish and is easier to paint.

Yeah how much is this gonna cost ? I wanna build a room like that . The roof structure was pre-built it looks like and all you had to do was install it ? Pretty easy .

My advice on sheetrock- find someone else to do it for you.

As much as I like building stuff, I hate doing sheetrock work. A friend of mine was in the trade and taught me some of the tricks like the tape measure & utility knife combo using your knuckle as a fence. The info served me well through a couple of commercial build outs and plenty of rental property work.

I'm still horrible at it, so it's the one project on a build I'd personally hire out.

I am very jealous of you right now! :D Seriously, though, that gameroom is going to be awesome. Having a dedicated building just for arcade machines? Pretty sweet.

It took some convincing but I got it approved. Let's just say there are stronger HOAs out there. We closed on the house back in June and I got permission before the close. It was a condition of the sale.

Cost is around $40,000. My father-in-law and I did the framing and I'm going to do the sheetrock & vinyl siding to save money. The concrete work alone was more than $7000. Here's the thread on the first 5 days.

Hmmm

I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say skim coat with plaster. My plan was to just paint it after the taping and mudding.

I think you're referring to the trusses. Those were made according to our specs, in terms of building size and slope. We had to get them from the curb to the top of the walls and install though.

man i hate sheetrock. If i was trying to save money, i might hang it myself, and have someone else finish it, especially if you don't have much experience with it.
Also, are you going sheetrock on the ceiling? Thats a huge pain.
Anyway, if your going to have it done, pm me and i'll give you the names of the sheetrockers that i've used in the past, whether you use them or not, at least you'll have another couple of quotes....

Vinyl Siding - i've only used it once, and i had it done. I know a guy that does that as well...
I really don't think its all that hard to do, but if your doing it all the way and covering eaves, you might need a break to do it properly, and i doubt they're cheap. Might be able to rent one, i really don't know.

Edit - my parents built a cabin several years ago, and they did the inside in unfinished paneling, and finished it themselves. They used acoustic tiles for the ceiling and it came out looking great, was much easier than sheetrock, and took less time i think.

I don't even know what you're talking about there (tape measure & utility knife combo using your knuckle as a fence). I am thinking about hanging it and then hiring someone to tape and mud it though. I've heard that's the tough part.

Thanks. It is cool. Ideally I'd have a finished basement to create the gameroom but in this area of the country you can't gets basements and I'd like to use the garage for what it was intended for.
