They finished up the slab today. Tomorrow they'll extend the patio sidewalk to the entrance of the new building. It took all day because they had to Bobcat the concrete into the back yard. The concrete truck couldn't get around back. What sucked about it (for them) was they had to pull up the rebarb and plastic that they had already put down and put them BACK down as they went. Here are some pics.

DAYUM! That's gonna be a huge gameroom! Congrats. What did pouring that slab set you back, if you don't mind me asking...?

Looks great, keep posting pictures of the build. You are a lucky man to have a family that supports your hobby so much, nice job!

Braido...

It will be a total of 960 sq. ft minus an 8 X 8 workshop. Other than the workshop it will have a completely open floor plan.

I got 3 bids that ranged from $6500-$10,000. This company came in the middle with just over $7,000. About $800 of that is for extending the patio sidewalk and pouring a couple of pads in the back.

It really is exciting.

Thanks. I am lucky in that regard. It doesn't bother the wife much. Although I had 18 games before we met and if it had been a problem we probably wouldn't have gotten married. I remind her of that when she reminds me how lucky I am. :)

Congrats on the nice building(to be)! And the understanding wife, too. Looks like an exciting time for you. Take plenty of pics and video along the way so you can remember what it started out as...

Im not too sure about the job they did on the pour. I see a couple major issues in those pics. One is the wire mesh is laying directly on the ground. Did they pull it up after pouring the concrete? Sometimes they do it like that. I prefer to use supports because it guarantees the mesh is at the right depth. It should be supported and be close to the center of the slab. Same goes for the rebar in the footer, looks like its about an inch from the form.
I poured a 20X20 for a metal building I put up for a little under $1200. It took me a full day working by myself to get it all finished but it turned out great.

Did the area look like this before you got started?

No but that probably would have been easier to deal with than what I had to. The area I put my building up was on the edge of the woods and I had to take down several trees. I dug the footer by hand and there were huge roots about every foot.

What did they backfill that pond in with, rock? I hope they compacted everything good.

They used some dirt and alot of sand. Three trucks of sand and one truck of dirt, in fact. The Bobcat compacted it quite well as they rode all over it (dirt & sand) pouring it in sections. The footers had to be 13" deep all the way around to satisfy the building inspector. It took 3 concrete trucks plus another one today for the ramp, sidewalks and a couple of pads I'm having poured.

42" Deep for Illinois! I am meeting the building spector tomorrow to find out all the dos and donts.

The nieghbors must love you, if I built that in my backyard I would have been on the news.

LOL

We'll see. We closed on the house the end of June so I've only met 3. I haven't had anyone come over to check it out yet. I'm (almost) disappointed. There's usually 1 in every neighborhood.
