anyone know where to find info or a manual for a

Data I/O multi programmer module
32 pin mos module

the card in it reads 289/288A multiprogrammer

thus far I haven't found much info about it on the net.

Do you guys know of a repair shop for the DATA i/o programmers? I've got one but it's not communicating with the PC. I have the 29b

You probably need to wire up a custom serial port cable... repairs on those are far more expensive than buying another one.

We made a cable for it already. The cable works with my friends programmer but not with mine. We are assuming that it's the internal serial port of the programmer that has gone bad.

Check inside the programmer for the 1488 and 1489 chips. They're the RS232 transmitter and receiver respectively. Common failures on terminals and computers. Especially if you can transmit but not receive (or the other way around) - one is bad.

Do you have an RS232 tester box? It's a little box like a gender changer but has a bunch of lights on it. That way you can check the line activity.

I dont know about that model but the 29B has some dials on it that need to be adjusted to match your serial port settings on the pc.
Is your friends programmer working with the same cable AND on the same pc your testing your on. Is it the same model? Are you using promlink software? If so, what version.

Yep. It was tested on Juanup's pc and cable also. His worked on my cable but not vice versa. There seems to be no communication between the pc and the 29b. Alpha-tron is replacing the chips for the serial comm and going to try it out again.

try his computer with that cable and his software. probably won't work but it is worth a shot.

The serial port on the computer is functioning because we tested it with the other Data i/o 29b.

Did you verify the port settings on the data IO unit and make sure they are set correctly? If I recall the switches are down inside the unit where the adapter plugs in. If these are not right its not going to communicate.

Yes. They are set exactly the same as the other unit that works.

and you used the select code to put it into remote mode?

Bill

I forgot about putting it in remote mode. Its strange, mine boots in remote mode and I have heard of at least one other that does this.
