I want a pinball machine and I have the chance to get a Who's Tommy machine for $1,400. The right flipper doesn't work, but the guy said it's a "loose wire or something." It works intermittently he says.

Is $1,400 a good price for this machine with a bad right flipper?

Is it a fun "family" machine?

Thanks a bunch in advance!

That's about average price for that pin, maybe a bit high for one with issues. It really depends on the condition of the PF and cabinet though.

The flipper is probably an easy fix, nothing really major in the usual suspects for that problem. As long as you're good with a soldering iron and willing to muck around in the innards, you should be fine.

The flipper is likely an easy fix.Make sure the machine has working blinders or at least that the blinder parts are there. This is a black fan shaped item that opens up from the apron so you "play blind" like Tommy. There is a small servo motor inside the apron that moves the blinders open and closed. Pretty cool feature.

I owned a nice one and it's a fun game. The stock rubbers are kind of dead but once you re-rubber it yo should be good. The factory silver ball toppers bring a good buck also.

Price does not seem to bad if its in good shape, I purchased my for 1800 in excellent shape. May need to check out the flipper coil wiring and diode, could be a cold joint on the flipper board needing attention. 50Cal give you some go pointers, check blinds -ie present of blinds, servomotor and control board. Changing out the rubbers does do wonders. It pretty dam hell "wear" on the plastic and paint around the thru hole. It's a pretty good game family wise, myself I hate it but seem to play it more then the other 80 pins I have (Hate-Love relations). If I could change two thing, I would dub the real WHO'S voice and get rid of the Broadway 20 carton butt smoker who song it. Last but not least change the translate to the proto version. You may need to change out the cap on the sound board and tighten the board in the head to remove the humming noise. check out pinball monkey site and let shagg show you how its done.

Enjoy.

Forgot to mention the fuse clips are basically junk on Data East games. Plan on replacing them if not already done. Very easy to do.

Enjoy!

Many thanks

Thanks for all the comments, tips, etc. I am just waiting for the guy to call me back now. He was supposed to last night and never did. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
