In between my Eyes and Punchout! projects I have been slowing working on rehabbing a Data East cab I picked up a while back. It's currently playing blind. I have scraped the vinyl off of one side and half off the front, but the other side is giving me problems. I've tried a heated decal scraper, a heat gun, citri-strip, acetone and just a sharp razor. Nothing is working. You can see the tiny area I have uncovered after trying for over an hour. This cab is also very musty and will need a good sanding, cleaning and sealing after all the vinyl is removed. Pics so far:

Does anyone know a good source for the dark gray vinyl Data East used? I checked Suzo/Happ but the only grey vinyl that they have is Sterling Royce Vinyl ('C' in this pic):

Which doesn't even look close. What would be ideal is a grey version of Happ's pica vinyl. But really, any dark grey vinyl would work.

Man, I have the opposite problem on my DE cabinet. That Grey vinyl I have had to re-glue! I will be watching this thread to see where you end up getting the vinyl.

Cool. Why only 36 x 72? Just doing one side? Or not sure if you'll like it? What exactly is that listing for? It says a 60 x 72" roll, then later says if you need more, they have 60" wide rolls available. Huh?

The only thing about the DE vinyl is that it isn't pure grey. Based on my sampling on my cabinet there is about a 15% saturation of orange-red in the grey.

Edit:
My measurements came from florescent light, I loaded up Phet's natural light photos and and getting the same hue as my cabinet, but a lower saturation, more like 4% saturation. Anyway, the DE vinyl is not pure grey.

I order 1 side to make sure its gonna look somewhat close. if it passes, I'll get the rest.

I spoke to Rich about the greys already. its a different type of grey. I need a matte look where 720
has a bits of silver in it and slightly glossy. We'll see. I just want it close as possible.

Tighe, you got a color code.....?

That's what I thought. Man, I didn't think it would be this hard to find grey vinyl.

You can find grey. It's hard to find a grey matte. All the greys I've seen are glossy.
I had to go into the automotive world.

I really should use a color scanner. Phet you might bet better off getting a piece of vinyl color matched.

Yes. They are NOS but been through some serious temp changes. Found these bad boys in
A warehouse. I'm going to be careful with them when applying or just scan & vectorize them
and have them restored.

I have the same issue with the NOS set I have.

Tell you what phetisboy, I'll scan them at the end of the week & vectorize them.
It's time these things are available.

This restoration talk is nice and all... but do you guys really like this game? I've actually fallen asleep playing this game...
