I have a Data East Checkpoint pinball that has been sitting around for several years. It worked fine when I put it in storage. I got it out and now the left flipper doesn't work. When I open the coin door I can hear it (the solenoid/coil?) hum but nothing happens. Does anyone know if it is likely the solenoid/coil that needs replaced? Thanks, Joe

Joe, If it was working when put in storage and now it is dead I would check the set of points right beside the flipper coil, short across them with a screw driver and push the flipper cabinet button with a Game started and see if it then works. This set of points needs to be made all the time and MUST open when the flipper is energized (Flipped) to keep things from over heating. If that does not get it grab a volt meter and check to see if you have voltage from ground to all the legs of the coil--should be 35v or so. Assuming you have checked to make sure you do not have a wire on the coil & points that has come loose and needs soldering.

Does the flipper move mechanically if you work it by hand?

Could something have corroded/rusted while in storage? Was it heated storage?
