its seems that the image on my dk has developed dark bars about an inch high horizontally going from side to side. the images are complete, plays fine sounds fine but when the image enters the area it appears darker (almost like the stripes on the american flag normal, dark, normal, dark) any ideas? thanks

COMPLETELY recapped? the typical 20EZ cap kit doesn't include ALL the caps. This is definitely a cap problem...

i was told it eas capped i havent opened it up yet. is there something i should be looking for or just have the whole thing redone?

Typically, jailbars are a filter cap issue... I'm not familiar enough (anymore) with the Nintendo chassis to tell you which cap that is, but it may even just need to be resoldered. A friend of mine recapped a pretty bad looking Nintendo monitor, and when he was done, it looked good, except massive jailbars. It ended up being that his solder joints on the filter cap were bad, causing it to be unconnected (he had balls of solder on the end of several caps, which didn't flow onto the PCB traces).

I am sorry to say, that changing the filter cap C601 will not get rid of jail bars. Just a note for the OP, the filter cap C601 is NOT included in any cap kits.

here's the best i can do. notice you can see the "darkness" especially on the vines.

C468 330uf 25VDC Jail bars
C469 220uf 25VDC Jail bars
C471 10uf 160VDC Jail bars
C472 100uf 160VDC Jail bars

Might as well do a cap kit, if you are going to change that many caps.

Sorry... I didn't mean the large filter... I'm thinking the equivalent of C57 on a K7000... usually pretty large and high voltage, like C472 or maybe C471. But yeah, if it has been recapped, check those caps especially for incorrect installation, bad solder, broken traces, bulging caps, etc.

Agreed, if it has been capped it may have crappy solder joints or bad traces or even bad brand new caps.
