So let me start off by saying I am a big fan and am greatful for Bob Roberts. Back in the day he was one of a few places I could get the caps I needed, however, I was trying to explain to my wife why I no longer buy from him. The analogy I came up with was Alpo dog food. I mean back in the day Alpo was all we knew or had. It was great because it was consistent, however, over the years we have better, much healthier options for dog food and Alpo the once king has faded away into the past. Alpo food is fat and kind of like fast-food for humans, yummy In the moment but not as nutritious as we thought.
I have a kit here that I could not bring myself to install in good conscious for a friend. Some caps were rated 85C which is ok, but, I was shocked to see a majority of them actually at 105c. Reading some of the date codes, they vary from 2011 to 2021. One might even be 2003, it is now 2024😲.
I am actually thinking of keeping this kit as a momento next to some other old components that I would never use, but, look cool. The board I used fresh Nichicon and a Panasonic electrolyte capacitors.
Do not get me wrong I still have a fondness for Bob Roberts, but I do not use Lelon, Jamicon, and other Ching-Chong caps
