I shipped a Tempest smoked glass bezel a week ago. Buyer PMs me telling me it's destroyed in a million pieces. WTF?! I put insurance on it, it was marked 'FRAGILE' & GLASS all over the damn thing. He also emailed my pics of how he got it. I could'nt believe it, I am fuming!

Has anyone else here had a similar experience? I'm sure there are at least a few. Lesson well learned: never ship glass!!!

End of rant. Thanks for reading.

How did you package it? Marking it "Fragile" means shit to them. They really need to be crated IMO.

Yeah, only with UPS...

UPS lost my 30 year old Asteroids board when I shipped it out for repair. It was insured too but now there one less Asteroids board in the world.

Yeah, just putting some cardboard or bubble-wrap around it is not going to get this safely across....

The number of issues I've had with USPS are 0. And I'm in Europe....

My wife shipped her mother a coffee maker for Christmas a few years back. When it arrived, it was smashed up almost as comprehensively as your Tempest glass. Shipment was insured, but the USPS wouldn't pay. It took eight months of bureaucratic hassle and (finally) a letter to her mom's Senator (the Post Office, paradoxically, won't deal with the shipper in one of these cases, just the receiver) to get them to grudgingly pay up.

So good luck. You'll need it.

Did you send it to the Klover StrainedSky? He was going to buy mine, said he would take it but needed to wait to pay until Wed. and then vanished. No biggie, mine is gone now, sold the game complete. Glad I didn't have to end up shipping it as I was worried it would turn out just like yours did.

FWIW...mine was from a Tempest that was previously converted to World Series Baseball: The Season.

Sadly, this is why one KLOVer flat out refused to ship one to me from the West Coast, and another wanted more than I could pay in shipping costs, simply to insure and protect the thing getting to me.

Their scanners must have a TEMPESTGLASS!!! signal that goes off to alert them to decimate the thing. It makes no sense. I shipped a KICK! bezel to 7146aaron from MD to IN, it was in garage door foam insulation covered with cardboard, and it got to him perfectly.

It's simply the Tempest curse :(

I didn't know so many people were looking for the glass. If I can talk the buyer of the complete game to use regular glass or plexi and can keep the tinted Tempest glass, does anyone want it? I believe I can convince him to do this as this is a conversion anyway that he is going to play as is, he isn't looking for the parts. PM me if you want the glass and what you would you would be willing to pay for it. I have not delivered the game to the buyer yet, so this is a possibility if someone wants it. I will ship it packed well if need be, or if you are in the Twin Cities area, you can pick it up too.

There's really this much demand for Tempest glass? I think I've got a couple in my "humongous bunch of bezels and cocktail tops" sitting in the garage.

I think I've also got a couple of bezel shipping boxes from Arcadeshop, and plenty of Styrofoam for packing.

What are they worth these days?

Really? No offence, but sounds kind of ghetto.

you shouldn't really need to have glass with a tint (like a car tint) added. A good glass shop should be able to get you a tinted piece of glass cut to size. Should look exactly like original minus the 30 years of age. Probably won't cost any more than buying and shipping an original.

+1. Glass shops should be able to take care of this without a problem, or at the least sub it out to a separate facility for tinting/tempering if needed.
