Ive been craving a Dreamcast for the last couple days. I am buying a Sega Blast City cab soon and I will be installing a dreamcast in it. I bet it will look amazing via vga on a 29inch arcade monitor. I cant wait to play some homebrew games also

Well, if you feel like making the drive to binghamton, we have lots of dreamcasts in stock.

Wish i was a bit closer. I've seen some dreamcast on Craigslist for 40$ with games everything so I might check that out today

Dreamcast is a great system.

I would say that it is THE system for console ports from 1998-2002 (and Japanese Shumps up until 2006).

Since you are getting a blast city, I recommend you get many of the Japanese Shumps you can.

As for converting the controls, here are the solder points (including shoulder buttons):

If they have any thrift stores around you then check them for old consoles. I've picked up a couple of Dreamcasts that way. Last one was the console only for four bucks, but it works great.

I have a DC and a few controllers that I got at a garage sale with no video cable and I never got around to buying the cable....powers up though. you can have it if you pay shipping. shoot me a PM if you're interested.

DC controllers have common ground...you can run a single ground to ANY ground on it, a ground would be the other trace for a button.

Funny, I just sold 3 of these with 3+ games and accessories for each like a month ago...for $25 a piece.

I'm sure it would. But why people do that instead of playing it on a TV like you're supposed to is something I don't think I'll ever understand.

certain games are meant to be played that way!! Everytime I play street fighter or any other fighting game on my xbox I use my arcade stick, to hell with controllers for certain games! especially shooters and fighters.

Yup , the dreamcast had some amazing arcade fighting ports as most of the dreamcast releases were Originaly released on arcade machines

What exactly is a fighting port (yes, I'm a noob)? I know where I can get a Dreamcast with two controllers and two games for $20. The price sounded good but I don't know anything about the Dreamcast. I heard the games are pretty expensive.

Lots of ground points. All common. I'd say take one off where the cable is connected to the pcb. Should be a nice big solder point right there.

For the arcade ports...

Anyways, let us see:
Naomi setup with Jamma IO: $200+ hard to find games.
Dreamcast with necessary conversion: $100 tops. Games are half the price. Or burn them yourself.

As for console style games, The DC was really lacking. The Resident Evil Games have been better done one other platforms. Other than that, what is left? Blue Stinger and Phantasy Star?????

But the Arcade ports (including driving games), OMG.

Yep, the Dreamcast is a slightly chopped down Naomi. The Dreamcast games are the closest ports to the Naomi originals.

Also, after the demise of the dreamcast, Sammy bought out the DC parts inventory and used it to create the atomiswave system. I don't think that any atomiswave games were ported to the DC though.

DC games aren't that expensive unless you are talking Japanese only Shumps from after the demise of the system. But just about anything can be downloaded and burnt. All of the games are much cheaper than the Naomi versions.

A port is when they take a game on one platform and convert it for another (as opposed to emulation). If a game is rebuilt from scratch, it is sometimes, called a port, sometimes not.

The most common ports are arcade games ported onto other system.

Ported fighting games are the most scrutinized because high level players notice (and often complain about) the slightest differences.

Dreamcast is best known for it's Naomi ports.
Capcom vs SNK (1+2)
Guilty Gear games
Marvel Vs Capcom2

It also had some good, but not perfect Neo-Geo and CPS ports.
Street Fighter III (double impact, 3s)
MOTW
Last Blade 1+2
King of Fighters 98-2002.
Marvel Vs Capcom

The Dreamcast version of Soul Calibur is also considered to be very good.

Note: Street Fighter Alpha 3 on the DC was based on the Naomi version, which was actually a port of the CPSII version. It isn't considered to be very good.

DC was an awesome system, especially for fighters. I'll admit, though, I never liked the D-pad for fighters. I always had to use a PS2 to DC converter to play in our little tournies we used to have every summer.

I still really enjoy Power Stone - I wish they'd bring that back. Man, now I want to hook up the Naomi and get that going again!
