Dallas SuperAuctions 3/13/2010

First time poster here, and this was my first auction. I just got into this hobby a month ago (I think it's a mid-life crisis thing....)

Since this was my first auction, I can't compare it to previous events. However, there were only a handful of working classic games. After seeing the first three games go at prices that seemed a bit high, I almost left early. (Ms. Pac-Man, needing some work, went for $500.00, a nice Q-Bert went for $600.00, and then a Gaplus for $300.00 - see attached picture).

I'm glad I stuck around though. I picked up a gutted Tapper cabinet for $75.00 (see pic). I'd like to restore it, but I'm wondering where I can find parts.... anyone have any ideas? It's missing the pcb, bezel, controls (looks like someone put a poker game of sorts in there), and part of the marquee.

Strange the way the variety of things went. There were tons of huge items but low on the usual things.

I expected a small lineup of pins due to the TPF next week, but was expecting a little bit bigger classic line. They seem to get smaller and smaller as the auctions go by. I wonder if the price will go back up as they start to get more scarce. There were some decent redemption pieces that brought in some money, but no good cranes at all. The jukeboxes went for decent prices, especially the CD100F and H.

There weren't many multicades either, and Im glad. I'm sick of seeing those things in the ugly Dynamo cabinets.

I thought the January auction was small but had a lot more deals.

What did the Ms. Pac cocktail go for?

I bought the worse of the 2 Tempests as my first project. Whoever had it before me swiped the 6100 and replaced it with a 4600 from a PacMan. Ho Hum. wish me luck.

Oh, and if anyone has an extra monitor they're interested in selling, shoot me a PM.

Thanks!

I wondered how that tempest came out, $150 is not a bad start. A good set of art stickers and it would look great! The real questions are the monitor and the boards.

I bought the Gaplus for $300, I didn't think it was high based on the fact that the cabinet and all the hardware was really nice. No water damage. The side artwork is gone, but I'm just gonna cover it up anyways. It's basically a galaga shaped cabinet. I like my games clean and as new looking as possible. With this cabinet I can make one of the newest looking galagas around. A new cabinet naked would have cost more then that.

I also picked up a new (as in never used) 25" tri-res monitor for $125 for my Golden Tee Complete/SSBC.

I don't feel too bad that I missed out, although 2percenter told me there was a non working SF2 up there that I would've loved as a project.Any idea what it went for? Also was told there was a SFA3 too, although I wouldn't have cared about that as I have an SFA3 board and a dynamo cab.

I bought a few...

I have around 20 arcade games, mostly purchased around 2000. For this auction, admittedly, I didn't do my research ahead of time like I've done in the past. (My preview time was limited, and I didn't have my self-made database of prices ranges and conditions that I worked with in the past. Then again, that database was from 2001-2006.)

My self-evaluation is that I did okay (not awesome, not screwed). Can anyone offer their opinions? I picked up the following pieces:

Ms. Pac-Man Cocktail ($380) - It was a Pac-Man board with a speedup chip and a character ROM hack to make it look like Ms. Pac-Man. Seems to work great. The monitor underlay is wrinkled, could use a refresh. I'll probably go multi-pac with it rather than source a ms. pac-man board. Reason for purchase: everyone asks, "Do you have Ms. Pac-Man?" After 10 years, I'd like a good answer. The other reason was that I wanted my first cocktail table.

Galaga ($450) - It was not working on testing, and I didn't plan to bid on it. The cabinet had some fair dents on the front. Side-art was intact. Sticker on the kicker was worn. No back door. But during preview, it powered up with a slightly shaky screen. Fixable, so I went for it. Reason for purchase: everyone asks, "Do you have Galaga?" After 10 years, I'd like a good answer.

Street Fighter II ($200) - Dynamo cabinet. Seemed to work well. Reason for purchase: for a friend.

Japanese Skill Stop ($75) - Surprise! For a change, I actually came to the auction wanting to get one of these. Wait... was I supposed to get keys with that, or... well, guess it doesn't matter. I've got to drill the lock.

Was an ok auction, they keep getting smaller but I'm still glad they have them.
I was there to get a jukebox and I ended up getting one. There were lots of them this time so I was able to up get a working NSM cd juke for $100. Also bought a couple empty cabs for some jamma projects. I didn't stick around for the parts, what did all the control panels go for?

I thought I saw the ghost town went for $150.
Hope to plug in the monitor this week. fingers crossed.

Does anyone have any info on the big auction in New Braunfel's coming up?

I would've passed on the Galaga and the Ms Pac CT.I think at the Jan auction, all the Ms.Pac CTs went in the high ones.I think those prices are a little high, especially the Galaga.I saw practically a new one on CL not long ago and I think the guy was asking around $600 for it.

If it worked fine I think the SF2 at $200 was a very good price. Had I had extra cash and actually gone I would've bid on it for certain.

Dam I wish I still lived in dallas. There are no close auctions here in tucson. Saw my revolution x and my stand up daytona. grrrr

Any auction where you are able to buy something you are looking for is a good one. I'd like to buy a CD jukebox someday.

The selection on the uprights seemed pretty similar to what was there in January. The games that were there seemed to be in better condition, from what I could tell. There were very few pinballs there, but a TON of big screen games on the back row with the driving stuff. I didn't wait around for that.

The first couple of games went a little high, but the woman who bought those has done that before. I think she is buying for a business and has a big budget. I was playing Gyruss, which I planned to bid on when she stood behind me and talked about how she wasn't going to bid on it. I was stoked.

I ended up winning the Gyruss. The cabinet is in pretty good shape, the CPO is totally trashed, and the coin door is missing. Those are both things that are fairly easy to fix/replace. When I got it home, I opened up the back, expecting the worst and saw that the inside was immaculate. Someone had totally refurbished the inside with new power source, wiring harness, and speakers. Everything else looks clean and fresh. That was a nice surprise, considering how 'meh' the front of the cab was. I went hoping to get a Gyruss and it all worked out.

I think $380 for that Pac cocktail is a pretty good price! Every cocktail at these things goes for at least $500.

I'm still kicking myself for not jumping on a working Tron cocktail they had about a year and a half ago that went for $275.

Congrats on the Gyruss by the way!

I'd love to get a CT game, especially Galaga or a Ms Pac,but anymore than a couple hundred bucks for a non-working one is too much IMO.I'll find a nicely priced one, working or non, someday.

I spoke with the woman who bought the Qubert and the Ms.PacMan. She is buying them for a bar and takes in consideration how much she is going to make on them so while her price may be high the investment ends up being relatively small.

She is super nice but you definitely don't want to have to bid against her. But at least she is not a shill bidder. Unfortunately I think a couple of the shill bidders tried playing her towards the end.

The bar is here in Dallas its really bad ass check it out, she said they are currently opening one in Houston.

That is a pretty badass looking bar! I figured it was something like that. I saw her buy a Tempest a couple auctions ago and I gave up when it got over $500.

Anyone know how much the Star Wars Arcade went for? I seemed to be in good shape but it's monitor was dead.
