Dallas SuperAuction starring Uncle Mike and trained bear!!

Wonder if this is just a local thing or if they'll be doing gimmicks like this at all of the superauctions now...
Man I wanna see a trained bear at the Belleville one... even better if it goes nuts! :D

Hopefully, it's first target would be the guy that brings all the pins and then bids them up to where he wants to sell them

I was wondering how the auction turned out as far as the number and tpe of games. This is the 1st one that I wasn't able to attend in the 4 years, so more than likely as my luck goes the deals were good and an increase in the number of classic games showed up.

There were less dedicated classics than normal in my opinion. There were quite a few games there. By the time I left, they were filling in the center. They had so many pinballs, they they had to make a u-turn with them in front of what is normally classics/multicade row. There were way more games than people so I bet some deals ended up being had. There were some classics like a paper boy with garbage on the screen, a kick mini, Ms Pac mini (you could smell the mold playing it), gyruss, Sinistar (looked and played nice), some pacs, galagas, etc. It seemed like there were more hideous classics converted to other things than normal. A Poor Gauntlet that was made into a Combatribes. :(

Of course the three Star Wars that were in the other thread were there a long with an Asteroids that was playing blind with the owl eye coin door. There was more beat to shit junk than normal. There were a half dozen different games with 2x4s trimming the sides or front and painted black. Lots of metal corner protectors, etc. It was as if some of the ops decided to just dump all their crap at this auction. I took a couple crappy videos down some of the isles. I will have to post them to youtube or something.

Some prices...

Space Invaders / Qix $600
Ms. Pac / Galaga 20 anniversary $1200
Multi-Williams $800 (I think)
Multicade 60 in 1 (Dynamo cut corner with 25" monitor) $500 and the second one was something like $575

I left when they were auctioning off these homemade cabarets with flat screens, multicades that were built really cheap with sticker artwork Nintendo, Longhorns, and Cowboys. They were trying really hard to get more than $500 for them. They were taking forever to get through the games because nobody wanted to bid much for the crap and they were stalling to try and coax bids out of people.

Well it sounds like I didn't really miss out by not going. I figured that more games would be there, as sellers believe they will get more money at the x-mas auction for their games. Did they mention when the next Dallas auction date was going to happen?

They said they were working on coming back and that they would be back. They said that the Rodeo center and hotel is under new management so they are trying to get it worked out. The old guy that called the auctions wasn't there. They said he passed away and it was the younger Asian guy that wears the suit was the one calling the auction. He went through a long ass legal disclaimer at the beginning. I didn't think they were ever going to start. I am waiting to hear what if any deals people got on the few classics that were there.

Wouldn't mind seeing the bear go nutz and take out the auction staff and the old guy who stands on the chair at belleville. Then all the shill bidders will be out.

That old guy and Mr. Green Coin were all butthurt at the last auction in Belleville that me and a buddy were standing off to the side staring at them shillbid. Just waiting for the finger to go up. I had to laugh as if it isn't obvious enough with the fact you're standing up on the chairs behind all the machines.

Note: all prices quoted do not include the 15% buyer premium and tax

I went too. the first machine, The First was a Silver Anniversary QIX / Space Invaders that was almost brand new went for $600. Other then that one the first 10 machines went higher then what they probably should have, I saw allot of the old timers shakin their heads.

It then slowed down. I have a feeling there were some buyers buying back there stuff. Bidding was slow and painful. By the second row the biding was starting at $100.

Burgertime in a dedicated cabinet $250. Multicade's were going for $700+.

Cocktail multicade conversions were $700+! Lots of Galaga's in all kinds of shape the nicest one went for $725. Some were not so good but still got $200-$300.

Ms. Pacman/Galaga Anniv really good condition $925 then the bad condition one went for $1000. Go figure!

2009 Silver Strike BC in a new cabinet went for $1600.

3 or 4 jousts not great shape, although one had a perfect glass bezel I was drooling over that went for $340 or less.

Pins there was only one that I wanted and I chickened out. The South Park, not sure who got it. It was decent shape other then horrible smoke stains.

I left halfway down the pins.

Didn't buy anything, but I am seriously thinking about getting in the multicade cabinet business!

So fill me in on the chair guys? Two of the machines I was interested in where bid on buy the same guy standing on a chair. Older guy with glasses, I saw him hobnobbing it with the auction crew before they started. They did say at the beginning of the auction that the staff can bid.

Right now I am just trying to learn the ropes.

Uhhhh, I was bored while standing around...

I left before the pins started. Then I came back to get my driver's license.

If anyone noticed how much the Moon Patrol on the next row of uprights went for, I'd be curious to know.

Thanks for the videos. As they say, a pictuer is worth a thousand words...

Did anyone get prices of the Kickman mini, Outrun mini, Min driving game on the end of the 3rd video, and the Dynamo Solitaire converted to a MAME (great cabinet for that and have seen several done, since it's already a computer inside)?

I planned to go, but it just didn't work out and I was going to bring some stuff. :(

The first 10 or so machines took about 30 minutes to get through... There was a whole bunch of shill and phantom bidding going on. There was one guy who had obviously brought most of the multicades (along with those god-awful cabaret flat-screen things with the dallas cowboys and texas longhorns marquees)... he was bidding all of those up (one of the auctioneer's spotters never took his eye off of him whenever one of his games was being bid on). He ended up buying at least one back for sure and he didn't look very happy. Shawn the auctioneer was stalling as much as possible trying to get someone else to bid. At one point someone made a comment about speeding things up which didn't go over to well. He said whenever someone tells him to speed up he tends to slow down. Whatever.
I didn't even get a bidders card this time. I just decided to sit back at a distance and observe the crowd as the bidding happened. It's just not as much fun as it used to be and while shill bidding and phantom bidding have always been a part of these auctions, it's really obvious when you pay attention to see who the auction guys are "tight" with and make special effort to get top dollar for their games. But hey... they are all trying to make their money.
I've been going to Super Auctions since the mid 90's but I think I'm about done with 'em. I'm only interested in the classics and the number of decent ones that show up seems to be getting less and less each auction. Maybe I'll just go for parts machines from now on.
oh well... hopefully some folks managed to get some good deals... I left after about 30 minutes so I didn't get to see too much of the results.

2percenter listed the cabaret Final Lap at $175 in his post. It sure was fun to play, but I needed a chair to sit down or something... There were two of them there and they had black and white checker pattern on the sides.

Yea I a talked to the guy who made the multicade cocktails he said he sells them for $1950 normally and expected them to go for $1000. I saw him buy one himself. Learn something new each time I go.

I too had important things come up, and missed it. I want to shoot myself because in those three videos alone I saw a Ninja Turtles, Xmen, Sunset Riders and Simpsons.

ugh

2 Super Mini Final Lap Jr's went for 150 each. Sticker had Shaun on it which is a employee of Super Auctions. Never seen one before so not sure if they were dedicated. Kind of funny they had a sign in the game advertising Marlboro, A friend of mine bought 3 old juke boxes and all I got was some tokens from the auction and 50 .900 token mechs from the giuy who brought the tokens. I wanted the Pirate Ship which went for 50 working but didn't want to spend the money. I did bid on a counter probably a older model than the 7 I already have but I didn't want to be 225 so I let it go for 200. I left for a bit to go to a work function and eat lunch and rushed back just to wait another 5 hours for the items I wanted to bid on.

Interesting items: 2 Tempeys which a fellow KLOVer bought before the auction, 3 Star Wars someone from OK bought before the auction, NWing The Pit, Kick Man Mini again (for like the 4th time). Probably the same one as the tracj ball had the same issues as before. Moon Patrol went for 200 I think maybe less. 3 Simpsons, Paper Boy,5 big pop corn machines which a couple were brand new. They said they cost 5K but only got like 100 each for them. I never saw a bear or ballon maker.

The best I can tell is that these clowns standing on the chairs at the St. louis super auctions are just bidding up their own stuff. Not to mention the guy who works for the auction company with the really bad mullet who has a look of digust on his face as the bidding is going on. He also brings some of his own stuff and you can allways tell when one of his machines are up cause he's super motivated. I'm thinking of taking a hacksaw to the next auction and sneaking in early and sawing the legs on the chairs about 99% of the way through. If somebody took a couple of these shill bidders out back and beat crap out of them the word might get around and they might ease up a bit LOL. Best thing to do is decide on a price your willing to pay and don't go over that, then it don't mater what the chair guys, auction staff, sellers plants or anybody else is doing.

Yup... mullet guy would always be the one watching the guy(s) on the chair. The guy on the chair usually had is hand on his chin and makes a slight gesture with his finger or a head nod to up the bidding. This kind of thing happens every auction... always has been a part of the dance.
