Alright...so I bust out a full cap kit on my D9200 as I was still getting some waves (slight) when i was done with the Bob Roberts kit (which only included like 12-16 caps). I replace every cap on the main chassis and neck board except the filter cap.

I was 1 cap short... C905... I didn't notice until I'd already pulled it, so i put it back in and finished up with the rest of the caps. Of course when i soldered all the caps in to place I failed to remember to re-solder C905 back in place.

I put the chassis in... plug everything in... fire it up and I see GT Fore come up on screen but the bottom of the screen didn't appear to sync right... there was also a pulsing going on... I dick around trying to see if I can get the picture to stabilize and in the process I notice the screen collapse to center... the image was simply a vertical bar about 2" wide that would pulse on and off. I turn off the cab, pull the chassis and check it out. That is when I notice C905. I solder C905 in and prayed... that was the only thing I could see wrong ...

When I put the chassis back in I fired it up... first thing I noticed was the flyback didn't squeal as much (as it did when having the sync issue)...I was pleased at first...then I check the image... there is no image.

BAH! I am getting nothing on screen. I can hear the flyback working... I can see the neck glow... but nothing.

What did I manage to screw up by not soldering in the c905? The cap is right next to the flyback...

:(

Help!

Is it in properly? Got a spare you can pop in to replace it?

I'm assuming you're not even getting the "No Signal" screen?

Actually, when I noticed the cap wasn't soldered I replaced it from another kit... and no, I am not getting any of the menus nor the NO SIGNAL message.

No video at all.

:(

PS: I guess the GOOD news would be I've not seen/smelled any smoke yet.

UPDATE: Ok... so my dumb ass evidently turned down the SUB BRIGHTNESS pot...so I turn it up. Well, I am getting a single white vibrating vertical line about 1" wide from top to bottom...there is no change in brightness or color... it doesn't appear to be the "image" squashed...but rather just massive static (out of sync type) in about a 1" wide line....

Well, assuming you did the rest of the cap kit right and it was working before you resoldered the cap, you probably overstressed it while adjusting it before soldering it in. I'd track down the vertical processing IC and see if it's bad, as well as any surrounding diodes, transistors, resistors, etc...

EDIT - nevermind. You said top to bottom and GT Fore, so it's a loss of horizontal deflection. Check R462 for an open and R424 for a short...

EDIT 2 - You can also check Q413, IC404, R415, and Q418...

Welp...

...being I only "play" an arcade tech on KLOV and the fact that I don't know WTF I am doing... I ask the following:

Is anyone here willing to "talk" me through some tests/repairs via phone. I am semi-proficient with a soldering iron and with some verbal instruction I could probably measure what is needed to be measured. I'd happily pay some dough for this service...

...alternatively... I'd be willing to ship this chassis off to someone to work on. That said... I'd prefer to at least try the phone option as (A) I can learn something and (B) it's much faster.

PM me if you're at all interested in helping me out with either option.

Steve? Dave? Mark? Anyone?
