I recently picked up a cab with a 27" D9200. I'm pretty sure it had been using VGA all it's prior life (Madden Football PC based game). The seller said he hooked a laptop up to it and it had a great picture.

I just finished installing a JAMMA harness and swapped the monitor output 'plug' to the CGA position. I got a 'no signal' box, then realized that I had connected the composite sync to the chassis vertical sync pin. I fixed my harness and was rewarded with an awesome picture.

The problem is that there's a high speed clicking sound from the flyback area of the chassis. What's really odd is that the sound wasn't present when I just had the 'no signal' box on the screen. I see no arcing when looking at the chassis, flyback or anode cap.

I'm planning on using this cabinet for a party this Sunday, and I'm worried about the sound. I left it on for about 5 minutes and made several screen position adjustments via the on screen menu with no issues other than the clicking. The cabinet doesn't have a back door right now, and I'm wondering if I'd even hear it with one.

I made a video of the behaviour, and note that the camera was right next to the chassis so it may sound a bit louder than if you're a couple feet away. Sorry for the wrong orientation of the phone's camera!

never heard that sound before and I've worked on several of these chassis. My best guess is that the mosfet or its transformer is making the sound....not the flyback, as it acts like a high speed switch at the given freq. You say it doesn't make this sound hooked up in VGA, only in CGA?

Factory reset a couple times with no change. I took out the Konami board and put in my single slot Neo Geo and it wouldn't sync. I made another video, there's some banging but it's my wife closing some cupboards. You can hear it squelch when it tries to sync.

I then hooked my laptop up in 800x600 and it synced right up with no issues. If I can't get it figured out soon I'll toss a Naomi into it so it can play something at the party.

Factory recall or normal recall? They aren't the same thing. Normal recall just resets to the factory programmed setting. Factory reset resets the factory programmed settings.

Problems with different resolutions can sometimes be fixed with a factory reset...

I held 'down' and 'sel', then chose 're'. It showed settings restored, but it also showed the same thing when choosing 're' from the regular menu. Is there another step to resetting from the factory menu?

I found this post about a sync issue with a Neo Geo 138 in 1 cart, which is what I used in the second video.

I turned the cabinet on again and started the first game in the Neo Geo menu. The game came on and displayed fine with the exception of the same clicking as the Konami board.

Monitor ran with a NAOMI in VGA via the VGA cable for the whole party with no problems.

I just installed a Gauntlet Dark Legacy boardset into the cabinet and have the dip switches set for VGA resolution. The video comes from the JAMMA harness and not the VGA connector.

It works with a similar ticking but at a much lower volume. An interesting test, but I'm not sure what this test is telling me.
