you know that D9200 I reference all the time that I put a jumper wire on the middle pin of the green transistor on the neckboard? well, I removed it and instead threw a new 2501 in (cause the legs weren't cut) and ran the middle leg direct to the scraped now-solder-covered trace.

for the fuck of it I tried adjusting the focus some cause the text had a dash of blur in it when I observed something rather interesting: those MOTHERFUCKERS at PNL didn't replace the flyback on this chassis despite the paper describing the problems I put in the box saying the flyback arced. this was 2 years ago. it's the same one, and it arcs when you adjust the focus.

at one point I lost raster completely, and a slight turn further the picture came back, sharper than originally, and at that point I just left it alone.

we didn't know about Chad at Arcadecup back then, and I'm pretty damn sorry we didn't, cause this is total bullshit.

so I guess my question is, what would cause this? and is it necessarily arcing if you don't see it, but hear that squealing hiss crackle sound inside the HV unit?

oh yeah, don't ever use PNL.

Yes a flyback can be arcing without you seeing it.

It sure sounds like your flyback is going bad and needs to be replaced.
