D2K & Remix

So I just picked up a D2K kit as well, and I get the same noise/shimmering on the screen. When I take it out of the equation, and just have DK Remix installed, all is well.

I don't know what it is about D2K, but it almost seems like it isn't fully seated in the Z80 socket. The pins on D2K seem different than Remix. I push really hard on D2K, but it just doesn't go all the way into the socket.

Thoughts?

I have a D2K and remix kit stacked on my original DK board.

I installed it about a month ago and all versions play perfectly.

However, the install was unbelievably nerve wracking. The pins on the D2K kit are so dang wide.

I had to push with nearly all my body weight to get the kit to fully seat. So obviously I had to completely remove the PCB and lay it on a thin piece of rubber as to not damage the board while pushing so hard.

I honestly couldn't believe how hard I had to push. I'm surprised most people haven't been pointing this out.

I wonder if that's where the shimmering is coming from. The pins should get changed on that board. I'm not going to risk damaging the board trying seat the D2K module in the socket. No matter how hard I push, the pins just don't want to go all the way in. Remix, or the Z80 processor...no problem.

I just bought it too... :(

Guys,c'mon.

The pins don't seat all the way in the socket on Braxe kits...round hole headers can be too loose. Braze made it this way for years...about 20 years. The sockets on. FK PCB (like Zaxxon) are different than anything else of the generation...hence, the proper headers on the kit.

No one knew that collectors would try to stack 2 different kits from 2 decades earlier with each other. Lol

I can say for 100 percent certainty....if you have shakes with both kits, but not with 1 kit on the monitor....it's a power issue. :p

Thats encouraging actually. I haven't dug into my DK to find a place to test the voltages. I did rebuilt the monitor twice though (hahahhahaha, hoping it would cure the hula wave :) )

Anyway, it may just take bumping up that +5 a big huh? eh, it doesn't bother me that much anyway.

I've noticed on a 20EZ, that adjusting the pot to move the image up and down the screen will cure or worsen the results with wave and jittter. Moving the image towards the top of the screen stops the jitter/wave...moving towards the bottom makes it worse. I've already changed the pots on my DK and DKJ boards as well as a cap kit job from Buffett on the 20EZ. He's also recapping a couple of DK original power supplies for me. I'm curious what the results will be when I install them. :)

...all I can say is I bumped my voltage up to as much as 5.2 with ZERO improvement so I just gave up. So if it needs more than that, I'm not going to try.

Thats 5.2 at the chip BTW.

I've seen kits take from .1v to .3v depending on pcbs and power supply....
When this whole thing came out a few years ago by "stacking" kits....I thought it was weird. Lol

Friz, you're right. 100 percent is something I shouldn't say, more like 9/10. There could be many, many other factors.

Sockets, power, monitor, game PCB, etc.
But, with if each kit works perfectly with only 1 installed, but you have an issue with 2 installed, I'd lean to the power.
