I got the Donkey Kong II / High Score Save kit for my birthday from my family yesterday. I'm gonna install it tonight. I'm pretty excited, to be honest.

Anyhow, I have a couple questions. In the directions, it says you can install the kit without removing the board from the game. Has anybody done it this way, or did you all remove the board(s) first and then install the chip? Pros/cons?

Anything else I should worry about other than making sure pin-1 is correctly oriented?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Its way easier to do when you remove the PCB and lay it on a flat surface. That way you can apply enough force to seat the daughter card. (It's kind of a bitch to get completely attached)

I took mine out to make sure the IC Pins went in the correctly

10 yrs ago I could of done it in the cab, not now - need stronger glasses

By the way, great game, so challenging

Try and get higher than 21K (damn reverse elevators) LOL

Thanks. Yeah, I figured it would be easier to install with the pcb removed. However, I'm also lazy :)

As far as the difficulty, I know what you're saying. I have played it on MAME and haven't yet advanced past the first screen. I figure it will be a little easier playing using a joystick, but still, seems really tough.

Wait until you get to the mixer level (board 7) ;)

I was able to install it without removing the board in my cabaret DK. Took patience and care, but it worked.

DKII is a challenge, and a cool diversion from the original. Well-designed.
