Every once in a while when I power up my dk/d2k I get a boot up error. In the video ram section next to 6P & 6R it will say "bad" instead of "ok" and also there will be some random mario heads and other graphics on boot up menu but when I hit jump and start game its fine.
But now I have also had some horizontal bars across screen intermittently. I will try to attach pic of the horizontal bars. I dont have a pic of the boot up screen that shows the 6P & 6R errors with the random mario heads right now.
So basically if the 6P and 6R do need to be replaced Im not sure what exactly Im looking for or where to get them. Any help would be much appreciated.

Every now and then, I get the boot error as well. Doesn't affect the data or anything. I just reboot and it works fine.

I would try to reseat the daughtercard and any chips you feel may be causing the error before assuming the chips are bad.

And this is a sure sign of failure. You can't simply ignore it - it will get worse. Take the kits advice and swap out the two failing rams. When you do it socket them. I speak from experience. I put up with random errors for quite awhile and then one all hell broke loose and swapping out the RAM the kit would generally complain about fixed it. However with your color issues it makes me wonder if this is a compound issue? Start by replacing those rams.

Or Deadly's advice. Now I'm worried that I should check my kit out. Although, I don't get the error often. It can't be an issue with the kit not being seated completely?

I re seated my d2k kit better, I think it is time for me to get my own soldering iron and replace the 6p & 6r video ram chips. I will have to do some forum searching on what kind of soldering iron and supplies to get, if someone is kind enough to offer suggestions that would be great.
Also any recommendations on where to order the 6p & 6r from?

I usually order here:

Anytime I have to replace a non socketed component I always try to add a socket. You don't have to but the rams on these Nintendo boards always seem to flake out.
You can go to Home Depot and pick up a low end Wells soldering iron or simply stop into your local Radio Shack and pick one of theirs up. Ensure the kit you buy has a fine tip on it (you'll certainly need it). Solder, solder wick and they carry a tip tinning solution in a small tin (forget the name) but grab one of those as well.

Thanks for the advice, at first I wasn't sure what you meant by socketing the ram. It looks like mikesarcade carries the sockets too. I got my DK board from mikes march 2009, i doubt its still under warranty but I will mention I got the board from them just in case.
