I seriously had never heard of D&D before I stumbled across this game in my local arcade back in the early 90s. But that was enough to get my interested lol.

Still def play video game based D&D way more than the actual pen and paper rpg but damn did Capcom knock it out of the park with this one and Shadow Over Mystara

That's pretty amazing to have never heard of D&D, but I guess it's a matter of where & when you grow up.

I might be showing my age, but when I was a kid DND was in a massive decline in popularity. Book stores and supermarkets either didn't have them or they hid them well.

The video games of the era seemed much more prevalent. I remember picking up Planescape Torment and learning years later that it was based on DND.

Conversely I remember trying to play Baldurs Gate and getting destroyed as that game assumes you know 2nd edition add rules. Figuring that out is like half the battle.

Pen and paper was on a heavy decline around the board, seemed extremely niche. Hell I didn't even know about Cyberpunk 2020 until 2077 got announced and that shit is awesome. Cyberpunk 2020 that is. It might have just been that video games took over, but having played DND, like it's pretty much where I spend my free time now it really is different that what video games are.

Especially now when video games that are multiplayer tend to be online only. Circling back to arcades in a way the local play is sorely missed.

I mean look at Halo 5, what trash
