I thought I'd try some cut vinyl instead of the traditional printed decals or stencils. It turned out great. Has anyone else tried this?.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1335063026.989227.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1335063112.174248.jpg

I have not. I do own a sign shop and if you do as well then it would be cost effective. If you don't have your own gear It might be a little high.

Good point. I did put a lot of time into the decals. But not as much as painting the stencils.

It does look good. I'm a purist though so I prefer untouched or stenciled. Most people wouldn't care though.

Nice work.

Yeah. Many people are the same. I prefer painted as well. The nice thing about the vinyl is that it is hard to tell the difference. It appears to be painted. It's a good compromise between the two. The downside is that it would be difficult to apply without the right equipment.

Here are some pics of what the decals looked like before they were applied.

That looks really nice... If I only had a plotter!

I guess I should mention that this isn't cheaper than painting, only faster. I spent about $100 just for the vinyl on this ms PAC.

Wow why that much, I have ten yard rolls I only 30$ for it would only cost me probably 20$ worth of vinyl

There no way you could do it for $20. I bought three 10 yard rolls for $100. ( pink, yellow and black) I used about 17 feet out of each roll. Not counting what i wasted with screw ups. That leaves about 10 feet on each roll but it's not enough to do another game. I guess it probably only cost about $70 to do the cabinet. I was just going by what I bought. Still not cheaper than paint.

I used cut vinyl on my Euro Robotron. It had been converted to Euro Joust, and 2084 scrubbed out. I tried painting but is was just too difficult. The Euro Roby cabs are constructed from black melamine, and it's a nightmare to paint.

I'm pleased with it. You'd struggle to know that cut vinyl had been used:

That looks great. Looks like you got really close on the color match too. How well did it stick to the melamine? I haven't tried that yet.

Thanks. I took a Robotron joystick to the printer that produced them for me, and asked him to match the red to the ball top. It's not perfect, but it's reasonably close.

The vinyl went on to the melamine really easily / well. Sprayed a light mist of water with a drop of detergent added onto the cab and also stickers. Allowed me to move about until happy with position. Adhesion was and still is great.

Seems like just adding the pink back onto a nice original ms pac cab might look nice.

Depends on how bad the rest of the colors are, but it would probably be a big improvement. Pink is usually the first to fade. It may just be lipstick on a pig too.

Oh i agree would depend on the cab. Hand wear is common. Would be a much less invasive option tho.

The wet method is definately the way to go. It also lets you get all of the bubbles out before the adhesion becomes permanent.
