I've been toying around with the idea of building my own custom Spy Hunter mini and I'm at the point of starting to collect parts for it, what must be original and what can be substituted?
Here's the scavenger hunt list as I see it thus far:
Original:
- Main PCB stack (3 boards?)
- Lamp driver PCB
- Steering yoke & switches
- Cheap Squeak PCB (what exactly does it do?)
What *might* be substituted:
- Stereo amp replaced with something of good quality using normal 12vdc
- The power supply replaced with arcadeshop switching PS adaptor ($45)
- The gas pedal replaced with a modified Road Blasters (possible?)
- Cab and all cosmetics will be improvised/customized
- If need be the shifter replaced with something off the shelf
- The weapons indicators replaced with regular bulbs or preferably LEDs
- Standard generic coin mechs/box/doors etc.
- Wiring can be built from scratch or adapted from a stock harness
Any thoughts or advice? Also I hear the AS power adaptors are known for causing a low hum in the speakers, is this true, and would substituting the amp be likely to fix that? I've got an overall goal in mind of making it small, sleek, futuristic, having a high-tech appearing control panel decked out with lights and just plain looking damn cool!
