Custom ROMs for "Star Wars Trilogy Arcade"

"Star Wars Trilogy Arcade" is a tremendous game that is vastly hurt by the inability to disable the game continues and score continues. If you could turn off (or limit) the continues and prevent the player's score from continuing, this game's replay value would be much higher. Especially in a party environment, where people would be more inclined to try and out-score others if one couldn't mindlessly continue to the end -- taking their score along with them.

So...how difficult might it be to create custom ROMs that would offer new setup features, and who in the world could do it?

I think if the following options could be added to the game, this machine would just be stellar:

* Allow Continues = Yes / No
* Number of Continues = 1 / 3 / 5 / 7 / Unlimited
* Allow Score to be Continued = Yes / No

I'd want an option to invert the controls when shooting, but keep them normal for light sabre fights. I invert my controls, but it always trips me up when I fight Boba Fett and Vader.

would be neat if it actually saved high scores too.

WOuld be an awesome game if they would have spent a little more time refining it.

We've got a lot of vastly talented guys in the community; surely somebody could add these new options to the game.

I guess it all just comes down to compensation, and whether or not this would be a profitable project for someone to undertake.

I'm sure all of us who own the machine would pony up for some custom ROMs. The question is, though, how many of us are there? (Seems like there might be more of these games on-location or in retailers' warehouses than actually in private colections.)

This would be pretty difficult, I think. The people with the skills to tackle this probably either don't care enough about newer games to work on them or they are too busy trying to perfect emulation on this boardset.

There is a guy in Spain who might be able and likely to take on such a project. He has a blog in which he details his progress in dumping late model Sega games. After doing so, he digs into the code at times to tinker about with settings and such. He was responsible for figuring out how to change the Chihiro's BIOS to allow for region changes. Again, there's no guarantee he will even consider doing this, but he's the only person who came to mind.

Blog here.
