Custom Mario Bros Control Panel - DK/DKjr Look A Like

I custom made this to look like the wooden DK/DKjr control panels. I like this look much better than the metal control panels. I started with a Game On Graphics overlay. The artwork had to be cut down to get the look of the DK/DKjr wood control panel.

To get the right dimensions for the newly cut wooden control panel you must start here first because the panel is going to be larger than an original DK/DKjr panel. Once I had that I cut the wooden panel and routed the back like the original. I then laid the art on it and marked all the button/joysticks/carriage bolt holes.

I used lexan instead of plexi and it is "MUCH" easier to work with. My panel has a little bit of black all the way around. I positioned the lower carriage bolts to not cover the artwork graphics.

I could have cut a little more from the top of the artwork to allow a smaller width panel. Mine came out right to the edge of the sides of the cabinet.

I like this myself. I dig the way it has a plastic piece to protect the CP overlay. I sort of wonder if it needs a DK plastic ring under the joystick to protect your hand?

That looks super clean - I like it.

+1 for joystick dust covers to cover up that rough lexan cut.

However if you wanted accurate CPOs you should've gone to TOG or Escape Pod.

I thought about that but the clear plastic protectors on my DK irritate my little "pinky" finger. My hand does not hit the cut out lexan. Plus they wear the control panel.

Thanks appreciate it. TOG did not have them, nor did Arcade Shop. Only the wide body at the time. Never heard of Escape Pod until yesterday in another thread. Whats not accurate about it?

Just casually noticing on yours that the turtle is too small, the #1 and 2 squares are too large, and the copyright is in a different font spread out too wide.
I see the difference in two companies offering these. I may be wrong but it looks like it is correct for the conversion size cabinet. Comparing it to old control panels doing a google search. The wide body seems to use what you are describing comparing to old control panels.

LOL, not that good. But, my boys are pretty good. It gets real loud when they are playing 2 player :)

I will argue with anyone who thinks there is a better 2 player game than Mario bros. It's at the top of the list and more fun than playing it in single player mode. Joust is a good 2 player game but the game itself is not as good as MB's. Bubble Bobble is another great 2 player game.

You don't have to argue with me. Mario Bros is definitely one of the best simultaneous 2-player arcade games.

There is actually a ton of strategy to the game. Especially when playing 2-player.

Good point - I didn't know the artwork was different on the conversion, only smaller.

No doubt there is a ton of strategy involved. I know alllll about it. :) You can also play against each other too but I've never really did that much.
