Rather than continue to try to figure out the wiring mess in my Roboton I wanted to ask if it I use this Stargate Jamma Adapter Harness I won on ebay for either Joust, StarGate, or Robotron: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190621542262

The idea now is to make two more identical Williams JAMMA adaptor harnesses using Bob Roberts' Williams Connector kits, and install a JAMMA harness into either my Robotron or Joust cabinet to allow me to switch between Joust, Robotron and StarGate in a single cabinet.

But I want to have the power and grounds of the adaptor bypass the main JAMMA adaptor's fingerboard and run directly to the original Williams(Robotron) power supply instead.

Is this plausible, or have I missed something? (Obviously the mess in the pics below is not the original harness in my Robotron).

Thanks.

P.S.: I plan to make the appropriate alterations to the ebay adaptor also.

No reason that I can think of that would stop you as all boards have same requirements. Just so I have this right

You want to run a Jamma harness from the original Williams linear PSU, then have Jamma to Roby/Joust/Stargate adapters just for the vid/sound/controls on each board, if so yeah that works.

Andy.

Nope. I want to make three "Williams to JAMMA" adaptors for each of the three games, except that for each adaptor, the power and ground leads would come off before reaching the JAMMA fingerboard and plug into a small harness that comes from the Williams power supply PCB.

Thanks.

Yeah, that will work.

Just wish I could understand what benefit you see to additional work building the adapters, paying for additional connectors, and more work when you change games. I just don't get why you would NOT run the power to your JAMMA harness.

What easier way is there to change between the three games? (And I have to buy board connectors for each anyway).

Because, like I mentioned, the JAMMA harness is connected to a switching power supply.

Oh, you don't want to run your boards on a switcher? That's the part I did not understand. Some of my JAMMA harnesses run on linears and some on switchers (including Williams boardsets) and they all work.

I am about to install a switcher in my Mystic Marathon (ex-Robotron) because the Williams linear can not provide enough current on the -5v for some of the boards I want to run in the cab.

The reason for going with the original power supply is because I want a game without resetting issues. I don't want to keep losing the high score data. And I want my control panel and coin door lights to work.
