So, I am currently in the process of restoring a Mario Bros. Widebody that had been converted to a Skins Golf back to Mario Bros (buying parts atm) and I got to thinking about painting the cab. I could totally paint the cab the correct original color scheme of orange sides & black front but that's not very unique.

I was thinking about painting a brick pattern on the sides. Basically, I'd give it a base coat of white, tape off the mortar lines/pattern, and paint over it with red; specifically, the red from a DK red cab. Anyone have any thoughts on this? What I am concerned with is if this will look stupid without any shading or detail-work done to the bricks & mortar to give the scheme depth and realism.

I'll be totally honest, I am not that great of a painter so doing any significant detail work would be beyond my abilities but I can handle a two-tone pattern scheme.

After a google search I realized I am not the first person to think about doing this (though that person was doing it to a DK cab converted to Mario) but I still like the idea despite that. I guess I'm not as original as I thought lol.

Stuff like this usually looks better in your mind than it does in person... just my $0.02.

I'd have to agree with this. I've done a little PC Case modding in the past, and I can tell you that unless you are REALLY good at doing something like this, it never turns out as good as you think it will.

BUT... you have to try and practice to be able to do something like this well. You gotta start somewhere..

If this were PC Case modding I'd have no trouble rofl. That's where I have all my customizing experience/expertise. This however is a little bit larger scale.

We'll see... One thing is for sure. I won't go with orange simply because people are so close-minded to anything new and unique.

I don't suppose anyone has a scan of the Mario Bros. CPO? It doesn't have to be for the widebody. I am thinking I may try to color match the brick on the overlay if I can.

Someone on eBay is selling a full machine side art for ninty cabs that is brick already. The Theme fits nicely, but I dont think I would ever do it...

Personally, I don't think it would look good at all unless you did a ton of airbrush work to give each individual brick some texture / depth.

I'd pass and go original!

Hmm... I can't find it. Got a link? I'll look harder.

Really, if I do it to one side first, taping down the sideart over it (not actually applying the sideart) to get an idea, and I don't like it or it looks like crap, I am only out some paint & time. That's not really a big deal. Something tells me I don't need to discuss time investment here...;)

Lanky Kong, why don't we just scan the overlay you have or just bring it to the paint store?

Ahh okay, I misunderstood you.

Hmm that looks like that faux brick siding you can buy at home improvement stores. I never even thought about using that... I'll admit it doesn't look that great but he did it differently than I would. Plus I could do it in a way that wouldn't affect sideart and could be removed later on if desired...

Thanks a bunch though for the link.

LOL, then what's the Best. Mario. Cab. Evar?

Here's one of the best...
