custom arcade game

Er, well, if you're REALLY good with coding you can hack arcade game ROMs on a computer and then burn them onto the old ROM chip, or you can hack an NES game (fairly easy graphically) and convert it onto a Playchoice chipset. As for making one from scratch, you'd really need a dev kit or intimate knowledge of the programming language that given game was made with, which you AREN'T going to find. Your best bet for a custom game, especially if you aren't a wizard with coding, is to make something in GameMaker or a similar program and then run it on a computer in a MAME cab. Honestly, though, unless you are capable of making something REALLY amazing and selling it or making dedicated artwork for it, you're better off to just get a regular arcade game made by pros, or running your game as a side game on a MAME cab.

Also, I see from your avatar you're a Brawl fan. I used to be pretty involved in the Brawl scene, so I admire if your taste. If a Brawl cab is what you have in mind I can warn you it will be very complex to pull off well but would be glad to help you do so.

Ah, yes, Advance Map. I spent many hours on my Fire Red hack with that before I screwed up the "Mystery Zone" and made it unplayable.

Is that what you had in mind for the arcade machine, a GBA ROM running on arcade hardware?
