Current state of my very mini "Garagecade"

Looks good dude. Is dig dug 2 on mame? Also, what do other kids your age think of your hobby?

Yeah its on mame, though I'd like to have a dedi dig dug eventually. I may add one or two more games to this collection, depends.
Some kids think it a bit odd some think its pretty kick ass.

Hey Endrien; this doesn't look bad in the light. You have a nice start here and it's good to see a guy your age appreciating the classics.

EM pinball is technically before my time, but I prefer those machines over the PB2K and current Stern machines - my 24 year old son was super enthusiastic about solid state PB games (technically before his time since he was an NES pioneer)...

Plus, your garage arcade is identical to one I saw about 13 years ago with a fellow collector after a warehouse raid. There's nothing wrong with using the available space - you don't HAVE to have neon carpet, black lights, and a special arcade sign over the door. Hell, my "arcade" went from a dedicated building with 37 machines in it to my current home office with only 4. You have to play the cards you're dealt.

The fact that you have some proper machines, and take care of them, preserve them, and enjoy them is the most important set of factors.

The two I'd like to pickup are maybe an asterioids dedicated cocktail and a black tiger and possibly a pin as well. REALLY depends on how I can fit them all/where etc. If I have to I'll ditch that cocktail for the asteroids.

Black Tiger kicks ass for two reasons.

1) It's fun, and people who know the game love it.

2) It's fun, and people who play it for the first time can easily figure it out, and instantly love it.

I used to have one of those - a pretty nice upright - and for the life of me can't remember where it ended up. Same with my Wizard of Wor.

That 2D shooter looks pretty cool. Ill have to check it out on MAME sometime.

Heavy unit? Yeah it can be a bit hard at times though, granted I can't remember the difficulty I have it set on. It is a pretty fun Shmup though and is a bit different.

That's pretty cool dude. Nice start. I've only been in this a little more than a year. I am still suprised how quickly my collection grew. My guess is that soon you will be slammed full, and out of space.

Good start, I really only have one comment, and it's just FYI. That plastic storage bin is probably not the best place to store your PCBs. Those things create static like a sombitch.

Instead of painting that Rampage black turn it back into a Rampage! I thought about picking one up last weekend at the auction but went for more than I wanted to pay in its condition.

I'm not a huge fan of rampage and I like Neo Geo better, the thought of restoring crossed my mind but passed.

Well, you've got atleast one thing I'm really missing... a good shooter.

I don't have a vertical JAMMA cabinet... but I've been wanting a shooter so bad, I almost thought about buying those Raiden II boards that were in the FS section and just wiring the joystick so it'll play "right" mounted horizontally. lol

Over all a great start... and that MAME cab is indispensable for checking games out... if you run across a deal, or see something in the FS section you like... you can just load it up, and take it for a test run on a real cabinet so see what you think about it... I'm stuck using the keyboard on my computer... uggg.

That is certainly a nice start... One thing that was missing was marquee lights! You had the great attract sounds, and the screens lit up, but the marquees add a little more to the arcade feel. Plus you can see to move around without tripping over stuff. :)

I would recommend that you just leave the sides alone on the Rampage. It doesn't look offensive as it is mostly black already. That way you leave your options open as well as the person that owns it after you. It is obviously yours and you can do what you like. I am just providing you another option to consider.

Edit: Completely agree to put those PCBs in something that builds up less static or put them in anti-static bags and then put those in the bins.

I bought a new neo geo marquee light today....Won't light up so I have to look at it. I'll put the boards in newspaper or something.

nice start man, one thing i would do is get them boards out of that plastic thing.. I know those plastic things (like plastic tubs) make static and can hold static. Might be wise to store them in something like wood or cardboard (boxes)...

Other then that, you should restore the rampage even thought you dont like it. Reason being it will teach you more about the workings of these arcade games (like wiring, pin-outs, voltage.etc) and it is very fun to do and rewarding.. After that you can sell it and make money to buy what you want... just an idea!!

So....if I like neo geo systems....and don't like rampage...you think its a good idea to restore it? No. I can restore some other cab but this is staying neo geo.
